MAN ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION AND DISTRIBUTION 

A man was taken into custody in Wayne County on Wednesday on drug possession and distribution. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 28 year old Tyler Phelps, of Silva, was arrested on felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute – marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

He was transported to the Wayne County Jail following his arrest.

MAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON DRUG RELATED CHARGES 

A man was arrested in Stoddard County on Wednesday on drug related charges. 

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 36 year old Justin Donley, of Cape Girardeau, was booked on possession of a controlled substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. 

He was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following his arrest on a $5,000 cash only bond.

LOCAL CHURCH HOSTING LIVE CHRISTMAS PROGRAM NEXT WEEK 

A local church will be hosting a live Christmas program next week. 

The First Church of God will be holding the Journey to Bethlehem event, and will feature a live retelling of the story of the first Christmas, with sounds and places from the first century. 

The Church is located on 3482 South Westwood Boulevard, and the event is free and open to the public.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE MAKE ADDITIONAL PATROLS THROUGH THE HOLIDAYS 

The Poplar Bluff Police Department will be making additional patrols throughout the holiday season. 

The Department tells KWOC News to keep an eye out for suspicious activity, as well as keeping in mind several tips for crime prevention, such as keeping your lights on in your home, keeping your door and home windows locked, and to stay in public areas as much as possible. 

The additional patrols will continue until December 24th, with over 40 more eight-hour shifts being added to Officer’s schedules.

MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL WARNS OF COLD WATER RESCUE 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol issued a warning on Wednesday about cold water rescues. 

According to the Patrol, many cold water victims begin as attempted rescuers, and stresses to not go out on icy waters to rescue people or pets. 

Instead, the Patrol recommends to call 911, and if possible, to extend a ladder, pole, or rope to a victim, as well as an item that will float.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN NEW MADRID NAMED DISTINGUISHED SCHOOL 

A school in New Madrid County was named a distinguished school. 

The New Madrid Elementary School was nominated as a National ESEA Distinguished School by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. 

Only two schools in a state are nominated each year, with New Madrid Elementary being one of the 100 schools in the country being nationally recognized.
