POPLAR BLUFF POLICE SEARCHING FOR SUSPECT IN HIT AND RUN INCIDENT 

Police in Poplar Bluff are searching for a suspect involved in a hit and run incident.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, the incident occurred at Panda Express, where a man was driving a red Chevrolet passenger car, believed to be an Impala.

Pictures of the man are available on the department’s Facebook page.

POSSIBLE SUSPECT IDENTIFIED IN DEATH OF LOCAL WOMAN 

There has been a possible suspect identified in the killing of a Poplar Bluff woman.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, the body of who is believed to be 33 year old Brittney Grammer was found in between Broseley and Poplar Bluff on December 26th, incinerated in a way that authorities believe to be an attempt to stop the body’s identification.

DNA testing is currently processing in an attempt to confirm if the remains belong to Grammer.

Authorities are working towards a case on anyone who assisted in the crime, and an unnamed person, who authorities believe killed Grammer, is currently in custody on other charges.

LOCAL WOMAN ARRESTED ON DRUG POSSESSION CHARGES 

A Poplar Bluff woman was arrested on Saturday in Butler County on drug possession charges.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 49 year old Serena Barnes, of Poplar Bluff, was arrested on felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance – amphetamine, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

She was also charged on a felony parole violation warrant, original charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Barnes was transported to the Butler County Jail following her arrest.

INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN STODDARD COUNTY 

Injuries and state property damage have been reported following a vehicle crash in Stoddard County on Sunday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that the crash occurred on Route H at Missouri Highway 25, where a vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign, striking a cable barrier, four posts, and an embankment.

The driver of the vehicle received moderate injuries as a result of the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital.

MULTIPLE EARTHQUAKES STRIKE IN NEW MADRID COUNTY 

Multiple earthquakes were reported near New Madrid County over the weekend.

According to the US Geological Survey, there were four earthquakes that struck – the first three occurring on Saturday, and the last being recorded on Sunday.

The first earthquake occurred 2 miles west of Marston, and registered at 1.9 magnitude with a depth of around 5 miles. The second occurred around the same time, 2 miles southwest of Howardville, with a magnitude of 2.7, also with a depth of around 5 miles.

The third earthquake occurred a few hours later, 2 miles northwest of Marston, registered at 2.2 magnitude, and had a depth of about 4 miles. The last earthquake occurred on Sunday, west of Marston, and registered at a magnitude of 2.5, with a depth of around 5 miles.

FOUR TO SIX INCHES OF RAIN FORECAST FOR POPLAR BLUFF THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY 

An incoming weather system is expected to bring heavy rains to Southeast Missouri later this week.

According to the National Weather Service, the rains Thursday through Saturday night will likely set the stage for the possibility of area flooding this weekend, as rounds of widespread showers and a few thunderstorms are expected, with multiple rounds of heavy rainfall expected.

Weather officials say that four to six inches of rainfall is forecast for most of Southeast Missouri through Saturday night.

The flooding concern will increase with each round of heavy rainfall, culminating with the cold frontal passage on Saturday night.
