BUTLER COUNTY MAN SENTENCED TO TIME IN FEDERAL PRISON ON DRUG AND WEAPON CHARGES

A Butler County resident has been sentenced to time in federal prison on drug and weapon charges.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 38 year old Jestin Smith, of Qulin, was sentenced on Tuesday on the charges of felony possession of 50 grams of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

These charges were set after Smith pleaded guilty to having a firearm and drugs at his home in the 4800 block of Highway N in Qulin, where a search warrant was issued. At the home, a pistol stolen from a gun shop in Butler County, as well as 146 grams of marijuana and 145 grams of methamphetamine were found.

Smith was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the charges, with a four year supervised release after his time has been served.

MORE CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI; STATE TOTAL NOW OVER 129,000

Additional cases of the coronavirus were reported in Southeast Missouri over the week, while the state’s total has risen past 129,000.

According to the Butler County Health Department, the County now stands at 799 total cases of the virus. In Dunklin County, 892 cases have been confirmed. Of them, 662 have recovered, while 220 are currently active. Stoddard County has reported a total of 621 cases of the virus. Of them, 117 are active, and 486 have recovered.

In Missouri, as of Thursday, there are a total of 129,397 cases of the virus in the state, while 2,144 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE COLLISION IN PEMISCOT COUNTY

A driver was injured following a vehicle collision in Pemiscot County on Thursday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Route U, west of Caruthersville, where a vehicle failed to yield to another oncoming car.

The driver of the struck vehicle suffered moderate injuries, and was transported to a Hayti hospital for treatment.

ROADWAY IN NEW MADRID COUNTY SET TO CLOSE FOR BRIDGE MAINTENANCE

A roadway in New Madrid County will be closed while undergoing bridge repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route D, between Route E and Route W, will be closed while contractor crews replace a drainage ditch over the Little River.

The work is set to begin on Monday, and is expected to be completed on February 5th.

NEW MADRID COUNTY MAN ARRESTED IN SHOOTING INVESTIGATION

A New Madrid County man was taken into custody for murder after an investigation into a shooting in New Madrid.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 31 year old George Dawson the 3rd was arrested on 1st degree murder and armed criminal action.

These charges stem from an investigation made by the Sheriff’s department, after authorities responded to a shooting report on Thursday. When officials arrived at the home where the shooting took place, they found resident Donta Grissom lying on the floor with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

After being taken into custody, Dawson claimed that he was being threatened by Grissom, however witness reports counter this claim.

The shooting is currently under investigation by the New Madrid County Sheriff and Police Department, as well as the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

ESSEX WOMAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN STODDARD COUNTY ON MULTIPLE CHARGES

An Essex woman was arrested in Stoddard County on multiple charges.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 36 year old Holly Drucile was booked on resisting or interfering with an arrest, possession of a controlled substance except 35 grams or less and 10 grams or less of marijuna/synthetic cannabinoid, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following her arrest, she was transported to the Stoddard County Jail, on a $15,000 cash only bond.
