DRIVER KILLED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN WAYNE COUNTY

A driver was killed after his vehicle crashed in Wayne County on Sunday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the crash happened on private property located north of Lodi, where a vehicle struck a fence, causing the driver to be ejected.

The driver, 60 year old Keith Brandt, of Lodi, was pronounced dead at the scene.

PUXICO MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN STODDARD COUNTY ON MULTIPLE CHARGES

A Puxico man was arrested in Stoddard County on Sunday on multiple charges.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 30 year old Elvis Simmers was booked on a Stoddard County warrant for unlawful use of a weapon, as well as possession and delivery of a controlled substance.

He was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following his arrest, on a $7,510 cash only bond.

PUBLIC HEARING SCHEDULED IN POPLAR BLUFF

A public hearing has been scheduled for Poplar Bluff this week.

According to the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission, the meeting will be used to discuss the city’s submission of an application for the Fiscal Year 2020 Community Development Block Grant program, which will go over funding propositions for multiple street and infrastructure repairs and equipment funding.

City officials are interested in obtaining input and assistance from citizens during the meeting, and all participants will be asked to help complete a Needs Assessment document, which will be used to detail what the residents believe are the strengths and weaknesses of the community.

The meeting will be held on Thursday at the city hall on 501 Vine Street at 11 am. For further details on the proposed projects, call 573-686-8620.

WAPPAPELLO MAN FORMALLY CHARGED IN SHOOTING DEATH OF POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN

A Wappapello man has been formally charged with the shooting death of a Poplar Bluff woman after an autopsy was performed on her. 

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 54 year old Bobbie Aden was charged with felony 2nd degree murder and armed criminal action after 52 year old Lelena Guard was found dead in a camper located near County Road 522 in Wappapello on Thursday.

Aden answered authorities, stating that Guard had shot herself. She was found lying on the floor of the camper with several gunshot wounds. 

After he was taken into custody, investigators found that his testimony on the shooting didn’t match the evidence found at the scene of the crime, leading to his formal charges. 

He is currently being held without bond at the Wayne County Jail, and has a bond hearing set for Thursday at 9 am.

ARREST MADE IN RIPLEY COUNTY ON METHAMPHETAMINE POSSESSION

An arrest was made in Ripley County on Saturday on a methamphetamine possession charge.

According to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, 51 year old Jeffery Capper, of Auburn, Alabama, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, as well as a warrant issued by the Poplar Bluff Police Department, and a motor vehicle related offense.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Ripley County Jail.

THREE INJURED IN VEHICLE CRASH IN STODDARD COUNTY

Three injuries were reported from a vehicle crash in Stoddard County on Friday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash took place on County Road 624, southwest of Dexter, where a vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver and two occupants of the vehicle all suffered moderate injuries from the crash, and were transported to a Dexter hospital for treatment.
