TWO SUSPECTS ESCAPED FROM SHANNON COUNTY JAIL; ONE IN CUSTODY, ONE WITH LOCAL TIES REMAINS AT LARGE


A search is currently underway for a man who is accused of escaping from the Shannon County Jail.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, officials are searching for 20 year old Hunter Vest, of Ellsinore, and have arrested 25 year old Cameron Kenney, of Duncan Oklahoma. Authorities report that they overpowered and attacked a jailer on Sunday before escaping and leaving the area in a 2012 Chevrolet Colorado with aluminum toolbox in the bed.

The two were chased by authorities through Ellington, before escaping near Highway 72 in Reynolds County. Both were wearing orange jumpsuits when they fled from police custody.

Kennedy was caught at an Ellington home on Monday, and was arrested on a Carter County charge of unlawful possession of a firearm and 1st degree tampering with a motor vehicle.

Vest is a 5’6, 120 lbs man with short brown hair and brown eyes. He is known to have connections in the Quilin area, and was being held on a charge out of Carter County for resisting arrest by fleeing.

MAN PLEADS GUILTY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY ON METHAMPHETAMINE RELATED CHARGES


A man pleaded guilty to multiple methamphetamine related charges in Dunklin County on Monday.

According to the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Department, 55 year old Steven Bowen pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, distribution of methamphetamine, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

These charges stem from an investigation by authorities in November of 2019, involving an undercover agent arranging the purchase of methamphetamine from Bowen, where he was arrested during the staged purchase. A search warrant was issued, which led officers to find methamphetamine and a firearm.

His sentencing has been set for January 7th of 2021.


ROADWAY IN STODDARD COUNTY SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION FOR MAINTENANCE


A roadway in Stoddard County will be reduced while undergoing repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route FF, from US Route 60 to Route E near Essex, will be reduced to one lane while MODOT crews perform pavement repairs.

The work is set to begin today at 6:30 am, and will continue through October 8th.


BUTLER COUNTY MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY FOLLOWING SHOOTING AT RELAX MOTEL


A man was arrested on Monday after confessing to shooting another man in Butler County.

Officials with the Butler County Sheriff’s Department tell KWOC News that 46 year old Robert Garrette turned himself in to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department on Monday, where he was taken into custody on a warrant for armed criminal action, 1st degree assault, and unlawful use of a weapon.

Garrette went on to admit to shooting Kevin Wallace at the Relax Motel, located in the 3100 block of South Westwood on Friday, where Wallace was found lying on the floor and yelling that he was shot.

Witness reports state that Garrette had kicked open the door to the room Wallace was staying in, and after a brief altercation, shot Wallace in the chest. He was later identified from a photographic lineup of potential suspects.


ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED ACROSS MISSOURI; STATE TOTAL NOW OVER 123,000


More cases of the coronavirus were reported throughout Missouri over the weekend.

According to the Butler County Health Department, the County now stands at 711 cases. Stoddard County has reported a total of 576 cases and 18 deaths caused by COVID-19. Of the reported cases, 102 are currently active, while 456 have recovered.

In Missouri, as of Monday, there are now a total of 123,276 cases of the virus in the state, while 2,074 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

SERIOUS INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN PEMISCOT COUNTY


Serious injuries were reported following a vehicle crash in Pemiscot County on Sunday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Highway 164, west of Steele, where a vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned.

Following the incident, the driver was transported to a Blytheville hospital for treatment.
