POPLAR BLUFF SOFTBALL WINS DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP

The Poplar Bluff Lady Mules Softball team is celebrating a district championship.

The 3 seed Lady Mules defeated 4 seed Notre Dame Monday 6-5 in the finals of the Class 5, District 1 tournament.

The Lady Mules now move on to the Class 5 Quarter-Final, where they will take on Parkway South. The quarterfinal matchup is scheduled for 4:30 pm Thursday in Poplar Bluff. 

 

AREA MAN SENTENCED FOR HIS ROLE IN 2015 MURDER

A man is facing over 10 years in prison for his role in a 2015 murder.

According to Missouri Case Net, 30 year old Eldrid Smith, pled guilty in August to a charge of 2nd degree murder.

Smith was sentenced Monday to 12 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections on the charge.

 

ONE IN CUSTODY IN CONNECTION TO ALLEGED STABBING IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

A Steele man is in custody in connection to an alleged stabbing.

According to Steele Police Chief Billy Joe Stanfield, the victim was airlifted to an area hospital with stab wounds following an incident on North First Street in Steele.  

44 year old Curtis Agee has been arrested on charges of assault 1st, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of a controlled substance.

Agee was incarcerated in the Pemiscot County Jail on no bond.

The condition and identity of the victim was not released. 

 

MALDEN WOMAN ARRESTED ON MARIJUANA CHARGE

A Malden woman is facing multiple felony charges following her arrest over the weekend.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 34 year old Tammy Cowart was taken into custody Sunday night on felony charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled substance.

Cowart is also facing a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Following the arrest, she was held at the Dunklin County Jail. 

BRIDGE TO BE REPLACED ON ROUTE FF IN WAYNE COUNTY

The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced plans to replace a bridge in Wayne County.

According to officials, the bridge is located over Rings Creek on Route FF south of Patterson. The new concrete bridge will be wider than the existing structure.

Construction could begin as early as spring 2023 with completion anticipated by the following fall.

As work is underway, the roadway will be closed in the vicinity of the bridge for approximately three months. Signed detours will be in place.

 

ROADSIDE WORK SCHEDULED FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR IN WAYNE COUNTY

U.S. Route 67 in Wayne and Madison Counties will be reduced to one lane for the rest of this year as contractor crews perform roadside work. 

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the section of Route 67 to be reduced is located from Route 172 near Hendrickson to Route A near Cherokee Pass.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 am to 5 pm daily through Friday, December 31st.
