SCHOOL OPENINGS CONTINUE TODAY IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

School opening week is continuing today in Southeast Missouri.

More area school districts are scheduled to begin classes today, including Bell City, Clearwater, Ripley County R-4, and Southland.

More schools will start their school year on Wednesday, including Bloomfield, Dexter, Puxico, and Van Buren.

Students in Greenville will also return to classes on Wednesday. Greenville R-2 had been scheduled to begin the year on August 23rd, but repairs to the school’s sewer system forced the opening to be pushed back to Wednesday. 

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI SCHOOL PLACED UNDER LOCKDOWN MONDAY FOLLOWING REPORT OF SHOTS FIRED IN THE AREA

A Southeast Missouri school was placed under a lockdown Monday morning following a report of shots being fired in the area.

According to the Bollinger County Sheriff’s Office, the Sheriff’s Office received a report of shots being fired near the Woodland School District’s property at approximately 9:40 am Monday.

The school was placed on a precautionary lockdown while authorities investigated the area.

Officials say that it was determined that the shots were not fired on or at school property and that there was no threat to the Woodland school. 

PEDESTRIAN DIES AFTER BEING STRUCK BY A VEHICLE IN SIKESTON

A man was struck by a vehicle Sunday in Sikeston.

Lieutenant Jon Broom with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety tells KWOC News that 55 year Demetrius Flowers was struck while walking on West North Street at around 4:45 Sunday afternoon.

Flowers was pronounced dead at the scene and an autopsy was conducted Monday afternoon.

No arrests have been made and Lieutenant Broom tells us that the driver of the vehicle has cooperated with the ongoing investigation. 

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR 2021 POPLAR BLUFF OPTIMIST SOCCER LEAGUE

Registration is open for the 2021 Poplar Bluff Optimist Soccer League fall season.

Registration for children 4 to 14 years old will be accepted through August 27th and officials say the registration fee is $20.

Forms are available at the Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation Office and parents can also register their children online at PBOSL.com.

MULTIPLE CARTER COUNTY ROADS TO BE CLOSED FOR PAVEMENT REPAIR PROJECT

Multiple roads in Carter County will be closed this week for a pavement repair project. 

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Routes OO, ZZ, FF, DD, and N near Ellsinore will be closed as crews perform the repairs.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 am to 4:30 pm daily, through Thursday. 

ROAD CONSTRUCTION CREWS TO BE IN NEW MADRID COUNTY THIS WEEK

Route 61 in New Madrid County will be reduced to one lane this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.

The section of roadway to be reduced is located from County Road 728 to Bloomfield Road in New Madrid.

Weather permitting, work is scheduled to take place today through Thursday from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm each day.
