SUSPECT SOUGHT IN POPLAR BLUFF SHOOTING
Authorities in Butler County are searching for a suspect in connection to a shooting in Poplar Bluff.
Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs tells KWOC News that on Monday a caller reported that a silver mustang was chasing a white Crown Victoria from a business on South Broadway to an apartment on Highway 53.
During the chase, the mustang was trying to run the crown victoria off the road.
The chase ended at the apartment and shots were exchanged between the parties. The passenger of the mustang was shot while the driver fled the scene on foot.
The passenger, whose name was not released, was transported to an area hospital and later flown to a St. Louis hospital.
The driver of the mustang has been identified and a search is ongoing. The driver’s identity was also not released.
Dobbs says that the incident is still under investigation.
MANY STODDARD COUNTY SCHOOLS TO BEGIN CLASSES TODAY
Many Stoddard County schools will be opening their doors for students today.
Bloomfield, Dexter, and Puxico will all be beginning their school years this morning. The Greenville and Van Buren School Districts will also be holding their first day of classes today.
The big school opening week in Southeast Missouri will wrap up on Thursday, with Advance and Ripley County R-3 both kicking off their school years.
ONE DEAD, TWO INJURED IN POPLAR BLUFF AREA WRECK
A person has died and two others were injured following a vehicle collision near Poplar Bluff.
Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the wreck occurred Monday afternoon when a vehicle crossed the center of Route W and struck an oncoming vehicle.
The driver of the second vehicle identified as 71 year old Richard Wiegers, of Branson, was taken to a Poplar Bluff hospital, then a St. Louis hospital, and has died from his injuries. A passenger in the second vehicle received serious injuries, while the driver of the first vehicle suffered moderate injuries.
DEXTER MAN FLOWN TO ST. LOUIS HOSPITAL FOLLOWING WRECK
A Dexter man was badly injured Monday evening in a single vehicle wreck near Bernie.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 56 year old Kimothy Orr was driving on Stoddard County Road 717 when his vehicle travelled off the side of the road and struck a ditch.
Orr suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was flown to a St. Louis hospital.
STODDARD COUNTY ROAD CLOSED TODAY FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS
Route U in Stoddard County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.
The section of Route U to be closed is located from Route H to County Road 607.
Weather permitting, work will take place today from 7 am to 4 pm.
MODOT CREWS TO CLOSE STODDARD COUNTY ROAD TODAY
Route N in Stoddard County will be closed today so crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation can perform pavement repairs.
According to officials, the work zone will be located from Highway 91 to Route Y.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 am to 4:30 pm.
