RUNAWAY TEENAGER FROM SOUTHEAST MISSOURI ARRESTED IN TENNESSEE

A runaway teenager from Southeast Missouri has been taken into custody in Tennessee.

According to the Dyersburg Police Department, on December 23rd officers responded to a residence in reference to a suspicious person wearing all black attempting to enter a garage at a home.

When officers arrived, they observed a young male run from the scene. The subject was apprehended following a foot pursuit and was found to be a 14 year old runaway from Sikeston.

Officers found the youth to be in possession of a handgun with an extended magazine, suspected marijuana, and a purse containing a correctional officer’s badge.

The juvenile has been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, simple possession of marijuana, and evading arrest and was transported to detention pending Dyer County Juvenile Court action.

POPLAR BLUFF SHOWDOWN TIPS OFF TODAY AT PBHS

The 35th Annual Poplar Bluff Showdown will tip off this afternoon at Poplar Bluff High School.

The first round will see Little Rock Christian take on Haywood at 4 pm, followed by Blytheville vs. Hillcrest at 5:30 pm, Poplar Bluff against Douglass at 7 pm, and the day will finish with Springdale vs. Germantown at 8:30 pm.

TWO EARTHQUAKES RECORDED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI TUESDAY MORNING

Officials say that two earthquakes occurred early Tuesday morning in Southeast Missouri.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the first earthquake was recorded at 4:49 am Tuesday, three and a half miles southeast of Marston.

The second earthquake followed almost 90 minutes later, three miles northwest of New Madrid.

Both earthquakes had a magnitude of 2.2.

DEXTER ROTARY CLUB TO HOST CHILI DAY IN JANUARY

The Dexter Rotary Club is planning to host a Chili Day next month.

The event is scheduled for 11 am to 6 pm on January 19th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter. In addition to chili, there will also be soup, drinks, and deserts such as pie and cake.

The cost is $10 and tickets can be purchased at the door or the Dexter Chamber of Commerce Office. 

Proceeds from the event will go toward the Stoddard County Children’s Home/Harty House. 

NEW STATE TROOPER ASSIGNED TO SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

One new State Trooper will be reporting to Southeast Missouri early next month.

Colonel Eric Olson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, tells KWOC News that a total of 19 troopers graduated from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy last week.

One of the graduates, Logan James, of Miner, will be coming to Southeast Missouri. 

Trooper James has been assigned to Troop E, Zone nine, which covers Pemiscot and New Madrid Counties.

The new troopers will report to duty in their assigned troops on Monday, January 9th.

ONLY THREE TRAFFIC FATALITIES REPORTED IN MISSOURI OVER CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY WEEKEND

Less than five traffic fatalities were reported in Missouri over the Christmas holiday weekend.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, three people died in traffic crashes during the 78-hour counting period, which began at 6 p.m. on December 23rd and ended at 11:59 p.m. on December 26th.

Troopers investigated a total of 306 crashes, which resulted in 84 injuries.

None of the fatalities were located in Southeast Missouri, however two fatal wrecks occurred the day prior to the counting period beginning, one in Butler County and the other in Pemiscot County.
