EAST CARTER COUNTY REDIBIRDS TAKE TWO OF THREE OFC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2022 Ozark Foothills Conference Championship Friday was a night for the birds.
The East Carter County Redbirds took home both the boys Varsity and Junior Varsity championships Friday night at the Libla Family Sports Complex in Poplar Bluff.
The Varsity team beat Greenville 57-51 while the Junior Varsity Redbirds took care of Twin Rivers 51-44.
East Carter’s hopes of a triple championship was dashed on the girl’s side as Doniphan defeated the Lady Redbirds 49-36.
MAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON DRUG AND ASSAULT CHARGES
Authorities in Stoddard County have arrested an area man on drug and assault charges.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 30 year old Henry Powell, of Sikeston, was arrested Sunday morning on felony charges of resisting arrest, assault 3rd degree, possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Following the arrest, Powell was held at the Stoddard County Jail.
ONE DEAD FOLLOWING SHOOTING IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
An investigation is under way in connection to a deadly shooting last week.
According to authorities, a St. Louis man was found dead Friday at a Sikeston residence.
A woman reportedly said that she had shot the man as he attempted to force his way into the home. The name of the man has not been released.
BUTLER COUNTY SCHOOL PLACES SECOND IN BUCKLE UP PHONE DOWN SHOWDOWN
A Butler County school has won over $1,000 in the AAA Buckle Up Phone Down High School Showdown.
Twin Rivers High School, in Broseley, came in second place statewide in the student safe driving pledge contest.
Twin Rivers had the second highest percentage of student pledge submissions of the total student population and won $1,500 from AAA Missouri to be used for Project Prom, Project Graduation, or similar safety-focused student programs.
BUTLER COUNTY UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI EXTENSION TO HOST SERIES REGARDING ALZHEIMER’S
The Butler County University of Missouri Extension will be teaming up with the Alzheimer’s Association for a series of events beginning next month.
According to officials, the 2022 Alzheimer's Association Series will begin on March 10th and run monthly on the 2nd Thursday from noon to 1 pm through December 8th.
The training series regarding Alzheimer’s and dementia will be located at the extension office on Lindsay Avenue in Poplar Bluff.
Officials say that there is no charge to attend, but seating is limited so attendees must call to reserve attendance for the classes. For more information, or to reserve a seat, call 573-686-8064.
REPAIR PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY ON INTERSTATE 55
Contractor crews will begin work today to improve northbound Interstate 55 in Pemiscot County.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the project includes pavement repairs between Route E and Route 164 on I-55.
Improvements will be completed in various locations and motorists should anticipate a lane reduction with a 12-foot width restriction within each work zone.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 am to 6 pm daily through Saturday, March 5th.
