ONE DEAD FOLLOWING WRECK NEAR POPLAR BLUFF
A Williamsville man has died following a wreck Wednesday evening near Poplar Bluff.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 21 year old Johnathon Thurman was driving a motorcycle on Highway O in Butler County when his vehicle ran off the left side of the road and overturned.
Thurman, who was wearing a safety device, was ejected during the wreck.
He was flown to a St. Louis hospital where he was pronounced dead early Thursday morning.
DROUGHT CONDITIONS CONTINUE ACROSS PARTS OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
Drought conditions are continuing across parts of Southeast Missouri.
Officials with the National Weather Service in Paducah say the latest drought monitor shows that portions of western Carter and Ripley counties remain in a severe drought.
The rest of Carter and Ripley Counties, along with Butler, Wayne, Stoddard, and New Madrid Counties are in a moderate drought.
PARAGOULD MAN IN CUSTODY FOLLOWING ALLEGED ROBBERY
A Northeast Arkansas man is in custody following an alleged robbery.
Officials with the Paragould Police Department tell KWOC News that 53 year old Shane Epley, of Paragould, is accused of beating a home health aide and demanding money.
Epley reportedly told the aide that if they didn’t give him $400, he was going to beat their face in. The victim said they gave Epley the $400 and then they were released.
Epley was taken into custody on a felony charge of robbery.
He is being held in the Greene County jail on a $15,000, cash only bond.
THREE PEOPLE ARRESTED ON METH CHARGES IN WAYNE COUNTY
Three people were taken into custody Wednesday night in Wayne County on meth charges.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 72 year old Marvin Hale, of Wappapello, 47 year old Phillip Stephens, of Poplar Bluff, and 41 year old Kristina Bingham, of Dexter, were each arrested on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.
Hale is also facing a felony charge of introducing a controlled substance to a correctional facility.
The arrests all occurred within a two hour time span and it was not released if they were connected to each other.
All three people were held at the Wayne County Jail.
POPLAR BLUFF AREA SEWER DISTRICT RECEIVES OVER $10,000 FROM MISSOURI PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION
A Poplar Bluff area sewer district has received more than $10,000 from a state agency.
The Pike Creek Reorganized Common Sewer District recently received a check for approximately $10,500 from the Missouri Public Utilities Commission.
Officials say that the commission provided the construction funding which allowed Pike Creek to fund wastewater system upgrades.
The check is a rebate of interest costs accrued during the construction of the improvements.
ENTRIES NOW BEING ACCEPTED FOR 35TH ANNUAL PICTURES BY THE PEOPLE
Entries are now being accepted for the 35th Annual Pictures by the People contest at the Margaret Harwell Art Museum in Poplar Bluff.
Officials with the Art Museum say that the contest is open to all photographers within a 100 mile radius of Poplar Bluff and participants may enter up to three photos. There is a $5 entry fee per person for adults and $2 entry fee for juniors.
There will be a $100 grand prize as well as $50 prizes in multiple categories.
The deadline for entries is 4 pm on Sunday, July 31st.
An opening reception will then follow on Saturday, August 6th from 1 to 4 pm.
