HEAT WAVE RETURNS TO SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

Another heat wave is settling over Southeast Missouri.

According to the National Weather Service, a heat advisory is scheduled to begin at 11 am this morning and continue through 7 pm this evening.

Temperatures are expected to get into the triple digits in many areas with heat index values getting up to around 110 degrees this afternoon.

Remember to take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours. 

THREE INJURED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI WRECK

Three people were injured Sunday evening in a Southeast Missouri wreck.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 47 year old Robert Orzel, of Ellington, was driving on Missouri Highway 21 when his vehicle crossed the center of the roadway and sideswiped another vehicle.

Orzel suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was flown to a St. Louis hospital.

Two people in the second vehicle suffered minor injuries and were transported to area hospitals. 

POPLAR BLUFF RESIDENTS REMINDED TO NOT PUT YARD SALE SIGNS ON UTILITY POLES

Summer is yard sale season but city officials in Poplar Bluff are wanting to make sure that local residents are following all regulations.

Officials are reminding residents that attaching signs to utility poles is illegal. It can damage the poles and the signs often become litter.

The city of Poplar Bluff does not require permits for yard sales, however there are still some regulations you have to follow. You can find a link to the city’s ordinance for yard sales on the City of Poplar Bluff City Hall Facebook page. 

AREA COLLEGE RECEIVES OVER HALF OF A MILLION DOLLARS IN GRANT MONEY

A Northeast Arkansas college has been chosen to receive over half of a million dollars from a regional workforce grant.

Black River Technical College was approved for funds in the total amount of $650,000.

College officials say the Auto Collision Technology department will be receiving $150,000 dollars to purchase a new automobile frame repair machine to replace the current machine that has been in use for over 35 years.

The Machine Tool Technology department will be receiving $500,000 dollars to purchase multiple pieces of machinery for both the Pocahontas and Paragould machine shop labs.  

 

 

BRIDGE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULED TO START TODAY IN STODDARD COUNTY

Route 51 in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane beginning today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge maintenance.  

The section of roadway to be reduced is located from County Road 494 to South Outer Road 60 near Fisk. 

Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. both today and tomorrow.  

SIGNAGE REPAIRS TO CAUSE DELAYS NEAR HOLCOMB

Route 53 in Dunklin County will be reduced today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform signage repairs. 

Crews will be working from County Road 332 to County Road 322 near Holcomb.

Weather permitting, work is scheduled for 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.
