STODDARD COUNTY COMMISSIONER REMOVED FROM OFFICE

A Stoddard County Commissioner has been removed from office.

Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Russell Oliver tells KWOC News that on Friday, a Court found that Commissioner Steve Jordan had committed the offense of nepotism in violation of the Missouri Constitutional ban on such conduct.

Oliver says that Jordan had nominated and appointed his son-in-law to an elected public office on the Board of Directors for Water District #5 of Stoddard County. 

The Court has permanently removed Jordan from the position of Associate Commissioner of Stoddard County.

The office previously held by Jordan is now officially vacant subject to appointment of a new commissioner in his place.

CITY COUNCIL MEETING CANCELED IN POPLAR BLUFF

The Poplar Bluff City Council will not be meeting today as previously scheduled.

According to a post on the Poplar Bluff City Hall Facebook page, the regular meeting of the City Council scheduled for today has been canceled.

No reason was given for the cancellation.

The City Council is next scheduled to meet at 7 pm on Tuesday, January 17th. 

DEADLY FIRE UNDER INVESTIGATION IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

An investigation is under way in connection to a deadly fire in Northeast Arkansas.

Two people were found dead following the fire early Sunday morning at a Randolph County residence.

The deceased, whose names were not available, were reportedly in their 70’s.

Multiple area fire departments were dispatched to the scene to fight the blaze. 

PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY A VEHICLE LESS THAN TWO HOURS INTO THE NEW YEAR

Less than two hours after the beginning of 2023, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in Morehouse.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 45 year old David Clapp, of Morehouse, was hit by an unknown vehicle on Bates Street shortly before 2 am Sunday morning.

The vehicle then left the scene.

Clapp suffered moderate injuries and was transported to an area hospital. 

  

BUSINESS 60 IN STODDARD COUNTY TO BE REDUCED THIS WEEK

Eastbound Business Route 60 in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform drainage repairs. 

The section of roadway to be reduced is located from One Mile Road to Cooper Street in Dexter. 

Weather permitting, work will take place today through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

 

LIGHTS TO BE INSTALLED ON US HIGHWAY 61 IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

U.S. Highway 61 in New Madrid County will be reduced to one lane for over a month as contractor crews install roadside lighting. 

According to MoDOT, the section of roadway involved in the project is located from Larcel Drive to the U.S. 60 Westbound on-ramp near Sikeston.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Friday, February 10th.
