MAN ACCUSED OF SHOOTING AT TROOPER IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI FOUND DEAD

A subject who was accused of shooting at a Missouri State Trooper in Southeast Missouri has been found dead.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, on December 18th, 47 year old Christopher Storlie fired at a state trooper during a pursuit in Carter County. The Trooper's patrol car was struck several times, but the Trooper remained uninjured.

The suspect vehicle then fled the scene.

Officials say that Storlie was found dead on December 30th at a casino near Hollywood, Florida.

Preliminary information indicates the cause of death to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

DRIVERS ADVISED TO NOT DRIVE OVER FLOODED ROADS

Monday night and Tuesday morning’s heavy rains has caused multiple roads in Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas to become flooded.

Officials with the Missouri Department of Transportation say that motorists are urged to stop and turn around if they discover a roadway has high water.

A map of flooded roads is available on Missouri Department of Transportation’s Traveler’s Information map at modot.org. However, these lists might not be 100 percent up to date, so motorists are urged to use caution while on the roadways.

ONLY TWO TRAFFIC FATALITIES REPORTED IN MISSOURI OVER NEW YEAR’S HOLIDAY WEEKEND

Only two traffic fatalities were reported in Missouri over the New Year’s holiday weekend.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, two people died in traffic crashes during the counting period, which began at 6 p.m. on December 30th and ended at 11:59 p.m. on January 2nd.

Troopers investigated a total of 243 crashes, which resulted in 75 injuries.

Both of the fatal crashes occurred in Southeast Missouri.

On December 31st. 63 year old Roger Vinson, of Piggott, Arkansas, died when the vehicle he was driving crashed at the intersection of Route C and State Highway 25, in Stoddard County. Vinson was pronounced dead at the scene by Stoddard County Coroner Brent Stidham.

On January 1st, 55 year old Roger Morrow, of Benton, died when the vehicle he was driving traveled off the right side Missouri Highway 77 and overturned. The crash occurred in Scott County near Scott County Road 352.

DONIPHAN MAN FACING MULTIPLE CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE CHARGES

A Doniphan man was taken into custody on multiple drug charges Monday afternoon.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 32 year old Cody Johnson was arrested in Ripley County on charges of possession of a controlled substance for methamphetamine and hydrocodone.

Johnson also reportedly had warrants from Ripley County as well as Probation and Parole.

Following the arrest he was held at the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office.

MAN CRASHES HIS VEHICLE DURING PURSUIT IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

A man is facing multiple charges after crashing his vehicle during a pursuit with police in Northeast Arkansas.

According to the Paragould Police Department, on Saturday officers were dispatched to a residential area where they observed a vehicle driving over eighty miles an hour.

Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop when the vehicle sped up, ran a stop sign, and struck another vehicle.

When speaking to the driver of the suspect vehicle, identified as Andrew Pantoja, of Paragould, the driver said that he saw them activate their emergency lights and it scared him, so he took off.

Two juveniles in Pantoja’s vehicle were escorted home by officers.

The driver of the second vehicle was injured and transported to an area hospital.

Pantoja is facing charges of felony fleeing, aggravated assault, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, along with misdemeanor reckless driving.

His bond was set at $50,000, cash only. 

PAVEMENT REPAIR PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY IN CARTER AND SHANNON COUNTIES

Route 60 in Carter and Shannon Counties will be reduced to one lane beginning today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.

Officials say the work zone will be located from Route W to Route Y near Winona.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through Friday.
