FUNERAL TO BE HELD TODAY FOR BUTLER COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE LIEUTENANT

Funeral services will be held today for a member of the Butler County Sheriff’s Department.

Lieutenant Brian Evans passed away early Saturday morning after a long battle with cancer.

Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs tells KWOC News that everyone who knew Brian loved him and he was the kind of person to always bring joy to every room he entered. Dobbs added that Evans was a wonderful person and faithful friend.

Visitation services will be held today from 10:00 am to noon at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral and Cremation Services. Funeral service will follow beginning at noon.

In lieu of plants or flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation.

ONE INJURED IN POPLAR BLUFF SHOOTING

Police are investigating a non-fatal shooting in Poplar Bluff.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, shortly after 2 am Wednesday morning, officers responded to a location on West Henry Street in reference to a male subject who had been shot.

The man’s injuries were determined to be non-life threatening and the subject was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Officials say that the case is under investigation.

TWO PEOPLE RESCUED FROM SUBMERGED TRUCK IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

Two people had to be rescued from a submerged truck in Northeast Arkansas.

Greene County Sheriff Brad Snyder tells KWOC News that shortly after 8 pm Tuesday night, Paragould Emergency Services received information regarding a truck in an area river.

The information also indicated that two persons were seeking safety on the roof of the truck. 

Crews responded to the scene and the two truck occupants were pulled to safety. Sheriff Snyder says that when the rescue was going on, only about eight inches of the truck’s top was above water.

No injuries were reported. 

OVER 8,000 DEER TAKEN DURING ALTERNATIVE METHODS PORTION OF FIREARM SEASON

Hunters in Missouri celebrated Christmas and the New Year by harvesting over 8,000 deer.

Preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation shows that deer hunters in Missouri harvested 8,599 deer during the alternative methods portion of the firearms deer season which ran from December 24th through January 3rd.

Top harvest counties were Franklin with 200 deer harvested, Harrison with 186, and Macon with 162.

The top ranked county in Southeast Missouri was Bollinger, which was tied for 14th in the state.

The harvest total for last year’s alternative methods portion was 10,038.

 

YOUTH VOLLEYBALL REGISTRATION UNDERWAY IN POPLAR BLUFF

Youth volleyball registration is underway in Poplar Bluff.

According to the Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation Department, parents have until January 20th to register their girls in 3rd through 6th grade for volleyball. The registration fee is $20 and games will begin in March.

Parents can get their children registered at the Park office on North Second Street or online at PBParks.org.

 

STOP LIGHTS AT SHELBY AND OAK GROVE TO BE OUT UNTIL FRIDAY

Technical problems are causing issues at a busy Poplar Bluff intersection.

According to the Poplar Bluff Street Department, they are experiencing technical issues with the stop lights at Oak Grove and Shelby Road.

Motorists are being urged to use caution until the Street Department can resolve the problem.

Poplar Bluff Police Chief Mike McClain tells KWOC News that it is expected that the problem will be resolved on Friday.
