RIVER RADIO LIGHTED CHRISTMAS PARADE IS THIS FRIDAY

Christmas lights will be shining bright this Friday night in Downtown Poplar Bluff.

The 2023 River Radio Lighted Christmas Parade is scheduled to begin at 6 pm on Friday. The line up will begin at 4:30 pm at the Sky High Indoor Park parking lot.

The parade route this year will run from Highway 53 at McDonalds, north along Ditch Road into Downtown Poplar Bluff, then east on Vine Street, before circling back on Main Street. Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.

Right before the parades, the lighting of the Community Christmas Tree will be held in front of the Black River Coliseum.

HOMELESS MAN FOUND DEAD IN POPLAR BLUFF

A homeless man was found dead last week in Poplar Bluff.

According to Butler County Coroner Jim Akers, 40 year old Michael Eugene Barnett, was found in an abandoned residence on North Main street on November 22nd.

Akers says that Barnett had fallen through multiple stories of rotten floor and became stuck. It is believed that he died from the fall and hypothermia.

A public alert was put out last week in an attempt to identify Barnett and Akers says he appreciates the public’s assistance in the case.

AROUND TWO THOUSAND THANKSGIVING MEALS SERVED BY THE UNITED GOSPEL RESCUE MISSION

Around 2,000 Thanksgiving Meals were served last week by the United Gospel Rescue Mission in Poplar Bluff.

Reverend Gregory Kirk with the Rescue Mission tells KWOC News that every year the Rescue Mission sees an uptick in the amount of meals served on Thanksgiving. The Rescue Mission served about 400 meals more this year than last year.

Kirk added that he is overjoyed with the generosity and support of the community and wants to thank the people of Poplar Bluff and Butler County for their generosity, because without them, the Rescue Mission would not be able to hold this event every year.

SOUNDS OF CHRISTMAS COMING UP AT THE PALACE OF PRAISE

The dates have been set for the annual Christmas themed play at a Poplar Bluff church.

The Palace of Praise is presenting the 14th Annual Sounds of Christmas nightly from December 17th through the 20th beginning at 7 pm each night.

Admission to the show is free, but you can also purchase tickets for a dinner theater experience on the 18th, 19th, and 20th.

Tickets for the dinner are $20 per person and can be purchased online at SoundsOfChristmas.org or at the Palace of Praise, which is located at 1400 Herschel Bess Boulevard in Poplar Bluff.

ALMOST 200,000 DEER HARVESTED DURING FIREARMS DEER SEASON

Almost 200,000 deer were harvested in Missouri during deer season.

Preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation shows that deer hunters in Missouri harvested 193,669 deer during the November portion of firearms deer season from November 11th through the 21st. Of the deer harvested, 105,614 were antlered bucks, 16,081 were button bucks, and 71,974 were does.

This year’s total was a decrease of around three percent, or slightly over 4,000 deer from last year.

Howell, Wayne, and Shannon Counties were the top counties in Southeast Missouri, with all three placing in the top 10 statewide.

BRIDGE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULED FOR TODAY IN PEMISCOT COUNTY

Route EE in Pemiscot County will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction today as contractor crews perform bridge maintenance.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the section of roadway is located between Route A and County Road 229 near Wardell.

Weather permitting, work will take place today from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
