AUTHORITIES INVESTIGATING FATAL SHOOTING, SUSPECT IN CUSTODY

One person is dead following a shooting on Monday.

Jason Elms with the Paragould Police Department tells KWOC News that shortly before 11 am Monday morning, Paragould Emergency Services received a 911 call of a male subject waving down motorists and attempting to get into any vehicle that would stop.

The subject was detained by police for possible impairment or mental health concerns. The subject indicated to police that his father may be experiencing health issues at their residence.

Officers responded to the residence and found a male subject deceased and a female victim with serious injuries. Both had suffered gunshot related injuries. The woman was flown out by a medical helicopter for treatment.

Elms says that the suspect in this incident is in custody. The names of the suspect and victims have not been released as the investigation is ongoing.

CAMPBELL MAN FLOWN FROM THE SCENE OF A MOTORCYCLE CRASH NEAR MALDEN

A Campbell man was flown from the scene of a motorcycle crash Sunday night in Dunklin County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 28 year old Cory Barker was riding the motorcycle on Route J when he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to make a left turn.

Barker suffered serious injuries in the crash and was flown to a Memphis hospital.

MISSOURI YOUNG HUNTERS HARVEST OVER 3,000 DEER DURING LATE YOUTH PORTION OF HUNTING SEASON

Young hunters in Missouri harvested over 3,000 deer this past weekend.

Preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation shows that young hunters, between the ages of 6 and 15, harvested 3,574 deer during Missouri’s late youth portion of the 2023 deer hunting season. The late youth portion ran from November 24th to the 26th.

Of the deer harvested, 1,697 were antlered bucks, 361 were button bucks, and 1,516 were does.

Last year’s harvest total for the late youth portion was 2,870 deer.

FOUR FATALITY WRECKS REPORTED IN MISSOURI OVER HOLIDAY WEEKEND

The state of Missouri had four people die in traffic crashes during the Thanksgiving holiday period.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, there were a total of 431 crashes during the counting period, resulting in 138 injuries as well as four fatalities. None of the fatalities were located in Southeast Missouri.

Troopers also made 103 DWI arrests and 10 drug arrests.

The counting period ran from 6 pm on Wednesday, November 22nd through 11:59 pm on Sunday, November 26th.

Officials say there were also no boating crashes or drownings reported across the state.

CULVERT REPLACEMENT SCHEDULED FOR TODAY IN STODDARD COUNTY

Route K in Stoddard County will be closed today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can replace a culvert along the roadway.

The section of roadway to be closed is located between Route 25 and County Road 219 near Bell City.

Weather permitting, work will take place today from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SHOULDER WORK PROJECT UNDERWAY IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

Route 162 in New Madrid County will be closed this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform shoulder work. 

The section of roadway being closed for the project is located from Richland Road to County Road 417 near Portageville.

Weather permitting, work will take place today through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
