JUVENILE FACING 1ST DEGREE MURDER CHARGE IN CONNECTION TO NORTHEAST ARKANSAS HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION

Updating a story we brought to you earlier this week, a juvenile is in custody in connection to a homicide investigation in Northeast Arkansas.

According to the Paragould Police Department, on November 27th, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Reynolds Road and Country Club Road in reference to a male subject waving down and hitting cars.

Officers located the subject at the intersection and determined that he was possibly under the influence of drugs and/or in need of a mental health evaluation. The subject made multiple statements about his grandfather and officers went to an address given to them to conduct a welfare check.

At the scene, a victim told the officer that the subject had shot them and another individual. The second victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the first victim was transported to an area hospital by helicopter.

The defendant was taken to the Craighead County Juvenile Detention Center and made incriminating statements regarding the incident during an interview.

The suspect, whose name has not been released due to being a juvenile, has been charged with 1st degree murder and battery. He is being held without bond.

PBHS DRAMA CLUB TO PERFORM MUSICAL BEGINNING TONIGHT

The PBHS Drama Club is preparing for their next performance.

The Drama Club will be presenting R.L. Stine’s “Goosebumps The Musical: Phantom of the Auditorium” beginning at 7 pm tonight.

There are additional performances scheduled for 7 pm on Saturday, December 2nd, and at 2 pm on Sunday, December 3rd.

Tickets for the show at the Kay Porter Theater will be available for $5.

TWO SEATS ON THE DONIPHAN SCHOOL BOARD TO BE VOTED ON NEXT YEAR

Filing will open next week for positions on the Doniphan R-1 Board of Education.

According to school officials, filing will begin at 8 am on December 5th and will continue during the district’s business hours through December 26th at 5 pm.

Two positions with three year terms will be voted on during the general election on April 2nd.

Anyone interested in running for the School Board can file at the Doniphan Superintendent’s Office, located at 401 Walnut Street.

POPLAR BLUFF FIRE DEPARTMENT IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Anyone interested in fire service in Poplar Bluff is being invited to apply for a scholarship from the Poplar Bluff Fire Department.

According to the Poplar Bluff Fire Department Scholarship Fund, the scholarship is for students in the Firefighter I and Firefighter II classes at Three Rivers College.

Applications are available at Fire Station 1 on South Broadway as well as the Poplar Bluff Fire Department Facebook page.

The deadline to apply is December 15th.

SPECIAL CHRISTMAS EVENT COMING THIS WEEKEND TO POPLAR BLUFF MUSEUM

The Poplar Bluff Museum is hosting a special Christmas event this weekend.

A Christmas Tree Forest Open House is scheduled for 1 to 4 pm on Sunday, December 3rd at the Museum.

Attendees can enjoy punch and cookies while viewing the trees created by Butler County students. Attendees will also be able to vote on their favorite trees.

POPLAR BLUFF IS COMPETING WITH SCHOOL ACROSS THE STATE FOR THE BUCKLE UP PHONE DOWN CHALLENGE

Poplar Bluff students are asking community members to pledge to make area roads safer.

The Poplar Bluff High School Leadership class is competing with schools around the state to see who can get the most students, staff, and community members to commit to buckling up and putting their phones down.

School officials say that the school that gets the most pledges can win up to $5,000 for the school.
