RIVER RADIO LIGHTED CHRISTMAS PARADE IS TONIGHT
Christmas lights will be shining bright tonight in Downtown Poplar Bluff.
The 2023 River Radio Lighted Christmas Parade is scheduled to begin at 6 pm with line up starting at 4:30 pm at the Sky High Indoor Park parking lot.
The parade route this year will run from Highway 53 at McDonalds, north along Ditch Road into Downtown Poplar Bluff, then east on Vine Street, before circling back on Main Street. Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.
Right before the parade, the lighting of the Community Christmas Tree will be held in front of the Black River Coliseum.

MAN WHO POINTED GUN AT SOUTHEAST MISSOURI POLICE OFFICER SENTENCED TO OVER A DECADE IN PRISON
A man who pointed a gun at a police officer in Southeast Missouri has been sentenced to over a decade in prison.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, 27 year old Ruben Ramirez, of Sikeston, pleaded guilty in August to one felony count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Ramirez admitted to raising a pistol and pointing it at an officer before dropping the gun when the officer drew his own firearm. In a later interview, Ramirez said he tried to fire the pistol because he wanted the officer to kill him, but his gun jammed.
Ramirez has a prior conviction for unlawful use of a weapon in a 2021 case in New Madrid County Circuit Court.
On Thursday, Ramirez was sentenced to 14 years in prison for the new conviction.
FREE THROW CONTEST SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEKEND IN POPLAR BLUFF
Area basketball players will have a chance to show off their free throw skills this weekend in Poplar Bluff.
Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation and the Elks will be hosting the Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest on Saturday at the
Poplar Bluff Middle School.
Registration is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m., with the event following at 9 a.m.

PUBLIC HEARING SET FOR THIS MONTH TO DISCUSS POPLAR BLUFF GRANT APPLICATION
A public hearing will be held this month to discuss the submission of Poplar Bluff’s application for a FEMA Building Resilient Infrastructure and Community Grant.
The City of Poplar Bluff will be applying for funds to drill and install a new well near the water storage tank on Alice Street. The total project cost is estimated at $1.3 million dollars.
The hearing has been scheduled for Monday, December 18th at 6:45 pm in the Poplar Bluff City Council Chambers at the Black River Coliseum.
POPLAR BLUFF POLICE NON EMERGENCY PHONE LINES TO BE DOWN FOR A PERIOD OF TIME TODAY
The Poplar Bluff Police Department has announced that they will be upgrading their phone lines today.
Officials say that the non-emergency phone lines at the Police Department will be upgraded beginning at noon today, which may cause the lines to be busy if someone calls. The upgrades are expected to be completed by approximately 1pm.
Officials say that if you encounter a busy signal or an error message today, call 573-707-4130 to reach the Police Department. The 911 lines will not be affected by this process.
POPLAR BLUFF CHURCH TO CONDUCT ANNUAL CHRISTMAS GIFT GIVEAWAY
A Poplar Bluff church has announced that they will be conducting their annual Christmas gift giveaway again this year.
