FUNERAL TO BE HELD THURSDAY FOR DUNKLIN COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE CHIEF DEPUTY
Funeral services will be held this Thursday for a member of the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Department.
Chief Deputy Wallace Poyner passed away December 1st, after 30 years of service to the community. In addition to law enforcement, Poyner served as a sergeant major for the United States Marine Corps from 1961 to 1991.
Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder tells KWOC News that everyone who knew Wallace loved him and he was the kind of person to always bring joy to every room he entered. Holder added that Poyner was a wonderful person and faithful friend.
Visitation services will be held Wednesday from 5 pm to 7 pm at Roller-Swift Funeral Home in Osceola, Arkansas. Funeral service will be Thursday at 11 am at Memorial Gardens in Mississippi County Arkansas.
FILING TO BEGIN TODAY FOR TWO POSITIONS ON THE POPLAR BLUFF R-1 SCHOOL BOARD
Filing begins today for multiple positions on the Poplar Bluff R-1 Board of Education.
According to school officials, there are two positions available for three year terms that will be voted on during the election on April 2nd, 2024. The elections will be for the seats currently held by Ken Davis and Tim Gaebler, whose terms are expiring.
Candidates can file in person with the Secretary of the Board of Education beginning at 8 am this morning at the School Administration Office.
The deadline to file for the election will be 5 pm on December 26th. The candidate’s names will be placed on the ballot in order of filing.
POPLAR BLUFF LIBRARY TO HOST GINGERBREAD HOUSE COMPETITION
The Poplar Bluff Library will be hosting a Gingerbread House Competition this weekend.
The event is scheduled for 2 to 4 pm on Sunday, December 10th. The homemade houses must be dropped off at the library on December 8th or 9th. Entries will be displayed in the library and voted on by the public.

FILING TO BEGIN TODAY FOR POPLAR BLUFF CITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS
Filing will begin today for the upcoming Poplar Bluff City Council elections.
According to Poplar Bluff City Clerk Lori Phelps, the city will be holding elections in April for three seats on the City Council, one representative from Wards Two and Four, as well as an At Large seat.
The Ward Two and Four elections will be for three year terms, while the At-Large seat will be for a two-year unexpired turn.
The final day for candidate filing will be December 26th.

UNITED GOSPEL RESCUE MISSION TO PROVIDE CHRISTMAS MEALS
Preparations are underway for the United Gospel Rescue Mission’s Christmas Meal.
The Rescue Mission in Poplar Bluff will be providing meals on Monday, December 25th and is asking for support from the community.
Officials say that they need volunteers to help prepare meals every day from 9 am to noon starting on December 22nd. On Christmas Day, the Rescue Mission will also need assistance to prepare, serve, and deliver the meals.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT TO HOST PHOTO SESSION WITH SANTA NEXT WEEK
The Poplar Bluff Police Department is giving area children a chance to get their photos taken with Santa later this month.
From 2 to 6 pm on Saturday, December 16th, the PBPD will be hosting a Christmas photo session with Santa.
Officials say that there also might be an appearance by the Grinch as well.
The event is brought to you by the Poplar Bluff Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #48, who are responsible for such programs as Shop with a Hero.
The FOP will be accepting $5 donations during the photo session.
