VETERAN WREATH PLACEMENT CEREMONY SCHEDULED FOR NEXT WEEKEND 

Wreaths will be placed on the graves of veterans next weekend. 

On December 16th the Poplar Bluff Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, in cooperation with Wreaths across America, will hold a ceremony at the Poplar Bluff Memorial Gardens Cemetery to honor veterans buried there. 

The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11 am. 

Everyone is invited to attend the ceremony, which will be followed by placing wreaths on veteran’s graves.

FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS AUTO TOUR TO BE AVAILABLE EACH NIGHT STARTING NEXT WEEKEND 

It’s time to visit an annual holiday tradition in Southeast Missouri. 

The 31st Annual Festival of Lights Auto Tour will be available nightly at the Redman Creek West Campground starting on December 14th and continuing to Christmas Day. 

This event is being held in partnership with the Wappapello Lake Area Association, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and River Radio.

BRIDGE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULED TO BEGIN TODAY IN NEW MADRID COUNTY 

Route 61 in New Madrid County will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction beginning today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge maintenance. 

The section of roadway being reduced is located from County Road 634 to County Road 728 near New Madrid. 

Weather permitting, work will take place today and tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., each day.


CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT TO BEGIN THIS MONTH 

State officials are encouraging birders in Southeast Missouri to join in on the National Audubon Society’s 124th Christmas Bird Count. 

The CBC is an early-winter bird census where thousands of volunteers across the U.S., Canada, and many countries in the western hemisphere go out over a 24-hour period on one calendar day to count birds. 

24 hour counts will be held at Big Spring in Van Buren on December 16th and in Poplar Bluff on December 23rd.

2023 EGGNOG JOG 5K SET FOR DECEMBER 9TH 

Registration is underway for the 2023 Eggnog Jog 5k in Poplar Bluff.

The race will begin at 10 am on Saturday, December 9th at McLane Park. Registration will start at 8 am.

CULVERT REPLACEMENT SCHEDULED FOR TODAY IN STODDARD COUNTY 

Route K in Stoddard County will be closed today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can replace a culvert along the roadway.  

The section of roadway to be closed is located between Route 25 and County Road 219 near Bell City. 

Weather permitting, work will take place today from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
