ONE DEAD FOLLOWING FATAL WRECK IN PEMISCOT COUNTY 

One person is dead following a two vehicle crash in Pemiscot County. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred Tuesday evening, when a vehicle driven by 76 year old Steve Alderman, of Winston Salem, North Carolina, was struck in the rear by another vehicle, causing his vehicle to travel off the roadway and overturn. 

Pemiscot County Coroner Brian Irons tells KWOC News that Alderman was pronounced dead at the scene. 

No injuries were listed for the driver of the first vehicle.


WHEATLEY HISTORICAL PRESERVATION ASSOCIATION TO HOST CHRISTMAS DINNER 

A local organization will be hosting a fundraising Christmas Dinner on Saturday, December 9th. 

The Wheatley Historical Preservation Association Christmas Dinner will begin at 5:30 pm at 921 Garfield Street in Poplar Bluff. A Social Hour will start at 5 pm. 

The theme for this year’s fundraiser is “This Christmas,” and there is also entertainment planned in addition to the meal.

8TH ANNUAL LIGHTED CHRISTMAS PARADE SCHEDULED FOR THIS MONTH IN ELLSINORE 

The 8th Annual Lighted Christmas Parade has been scheduled for this month in Ellsinore. 

Line up will begin at 6 pm on Saturday, December 16th at the East Carter County elementary school parking lot. The parade will start at 6:30 pm. After the parade Santa will be available for pictures and awards will be given out for the best floats.

POPLAR BLUFF SHOWDOWN TO BEGIN LATER THIS MONTH 

We are three weeks away from the 36th Annual Poplar Bluff Showdown. 

The three day tournament will begin on Thursday December 28th at Poplar Bluff High School. 

Poplar Bluff Athletics Director Kent Keith tells KWOC News that the field will include teams from five different states. 

Poplar Bluff will be joined by New Madrid County Central and Christian Brothers from Missouri, Vilonia from Arkansas, McCracken County from Kentucky, and Urbana from Illinois along with Memphis East and Germantown from Tennessee. 

Today’s Talk KWOC will have live video coverage, with commentary, for all 12 games, along with the 3 Point and Slam Dunk Contests, on our Facebook and YouTube pages during the Showdown.

Live audio coverage of every Poplar Bluff Mules game, as well as the tournament championship game, will also be broadcast on 93.3 FM, 930 AM, and at KWOC.com. 


TWO INJURED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK BUTLER COUNTY 

An area man was flown from the scene of a single vehicle wreck Tuesday evening in Butler County. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 20 year old Jessie Clayton, of Gideon, was driving on US Highway 60, one mile west of Fisk, when his vehicle struck an abandoned trailer in the roadway and ran off into the median. 

Clayton received serious injuries and was airlifted to a Memphis hospital. A passenger in the vehicle also received serious injuries and was taken to a Poplar Bluff hospital. 


POPLAR BLUFF CHURCH TO CONDUCT ANNUAL CHRISTMAS GIFT GIVEAWAY 

A Poplar Bluff church has announced that they will be conducting their annual Christmas gift giveaway again this year. 

The Palace of Praise is asking anyone who would like to sign their children, between the ages of 3 and 12, up for a free gift to contact the church at 573-785-4232. 

Officials say the deadline to get your child registered is December 14th.
