HEAVY RAINFALL POSSIBLE THIS WEEKEND IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
We could see some heavy rain this weekend in Southeast Missouri.
According to a Hazardous Weather Outlook from the National Weather Service, locally moderate to heavy rainfall is expected Saturday, which may lead to isolated flooding of poor drainage and flood-prone areas.
Most of Southeast Missouri is expected to receive one half of an inch to two inches of rainfall. Most of Dunklin, New Madrid, and Pemiscot Counties could see up to three inches of rain.
Weather officials say that any thunderstorms that develop today are expected to remain below severe limits.
POPLAR BLUFF IS COMPETING WITH SCHOOL ACROSS THE STATE FOR THE BUCKLE UP PHONE DOWN CHALLENGE
Poplar Bluff students are asking community members to pledge to make area roads safer.
The Poplar Bluff High School Leadership class is competing with schools around the state to see who can get the most students, staff, and community members to commit to buckling up and putting their phones down.
School officials say that the school that gets the most pledges can win up to $5,000 for the school.
Registration is available through December 31st at SaveMoLives.com.
SOUNDS OF CHRISTMAS COMING UP AT THE PALACE OF PRAISE
The dates have been set for the annual Christmas themed play at a Poplar Bluff church.
The Palace of Praise is presenting the 14th Annual Sounds of Christmas nightly from December 17th through the 20th beginning at 7 pm each night.
Admission to the show is free, but you can also purchase tickets for a dinner theater experience on the 18th, 19th, and 20th.
Tickets for the dinner are $20 per person and can be purchased online at SoundsOfChristmas.org or at the Palace of Praise, which is located at 1400 Herschel Bess Boulevard in Poplar Bluff.

LADY ROYALS CHRISTMAS CLASSIC TO BEGIN ON DECEMBER 16TH
16 women’s basketball teams will be descending on Broseley later this month for the 26th Annual Lady Royals Christmas Classic.
The tournament is scheduled to run from December 16th through the 23rd at Twin Rivers High School and will feature numerous area schools including Twin Rivers, Poplar Bluff, Malden, Dexter, Doniphan, Neelyville, Kennett, and more.
A bracket for the tournament will be released next week.

PUBLIC HEARING SET FOR THIS MONTH TO DISCUSS POPLAR BLUFF GRANT APPLICATION
A public hearing will be held this month to discuss the submission of Poplar Bluff’s application for a FEMA Building Resilient Infrastructure and Community Grant.
The City of Poplar Bluff will be applying for funds to drill and install a new well near the water storage tank on Alice Street. The total project cost is estimated at $1.3 million dollars.
The hearing has been scheduled for Monday, December 18th at 6:45 pm in the Poplar Bluff City Council Chambers at the Black River Coliseum.
POPLAR BLUFF FIRE DEPARTMENT IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Anyone interested in fire service in Poplar Bluff is being invited to apply for a scholarship from the Poplar Bluff Fire Department.
According to the Poplar Bluff Fire Department Scholarship Fund, the scholarship is for students in the Firefighter I and Firefighter II classes at Three Rivers College.
Applications are available at Fire Station 1 on South Broadway as well as the Poplar Bluff Fire Department Facebook page.
The deadline to apply is December 15th.
