POPLAR BLUFF CITY COUNCILMAN RESIGNS
There is now a vacancy on the Poplar Bluff City Council.
During a regular meeting of the city council Monday night, Poplar Bluff Mayor Shane Cornman read a letter from Councilman Robert Duckett announcing Duckett’s resignation from his at-large seat on the Council, effective immediately.
In the letter Duckett said that due to moving outside the city limits and because of family needs he will step down.
Cornman wished Duckett the best in his future endeavors.
City Manager Matt Winters says that anyone who is interested in the seat should submit a letter of interest to City Hall. Whoever is appointed will serve until the next municipal election in April 2024.
According to City Clerk Lori Phelps, letters of interest should be received by the Mayor on or before 4 pm on Monday July 10th.
SHOTS FIRED INTO A POPLAR BLUFF HOME, NO INJURIES REPORTED
Authorities in Poplar Bluff say that gunshots were reportedly fired into an area home on Monday.
According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, shortly before 11 pm Monday night, officers responded to a report of shots being fired into a residence on South 9th Street.
Officials say that no one was injured in the incident.
No additional information was released.
TORNADO CONFIRMED TO HAVE TOUCHED DOWN IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS
Weather officials have confirmed that a tornado touched down over the weekend in Northeast Arkansas.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, an EF1 tornado occurred in Randolph County, south of Pocahontas, from 4:57 pm to 5:08 pm Sunday afternoon.
The tornado had a path length of five miles with a maximum width of 300 yards. Peak winds were estimated to be 107 miles per hour.
Officials say that damage from the tornado was mainly confined to trees being blown down.
KENNETT RESIDENT APPOINTED TO MISSOURI STATE BOARD OF PHARMACY
A Kennett pharmacy owner has been appointed to a state board.
Missouri Governor Mike Parson announced on Tuesday that Darren Harris was appointed to the State Board of Pharmacy.
Harris has served as Owner and Pharmacist of Harris Pharmacy in Kennett since 1996.
He is a member of the Missouri Pharmacy Association and the National Community Pharmacists Association.
Harris is also a Board Member for the Dunklin County Health Board and the current President of the Kennett Memorial Airport Board.
BUTLER COUNTY ROAD CLOSED FOR TODAY DUE TO PAVEMENT REPAIRS
Route Y in Butler County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.
Officials say that Route Y will be closed between Route 53 and Second Street in Qulin.
Weather permitting, work will take place today from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
CULVERT REPLACEMENT SCHEDULED FOR TODAY IN PEMISCOT COUNTY
A culvert replacement will force the closure of Route P in Pemiscot County today.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the section of roadway being closed is located between Cleveland Street and County Road 266 near Hayti.
Weather permitting, work will take place today from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
