POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOL BUS INSPECTOR HONORED AT STATE CONFERENCE

A Poplar Bluff school bus inspector has been honored at a state conference.

According to Poplar Bluff R-1 School District Transportation Director Jon McKinney, a group of the school’s transportation professionals recently attended the 58th Annual Missouri Association for Pupil Transportation conference in Springfield.

During the conference, Poplar Bluff bus driver trainer and bus inspector, Jason Davis received 3rd place overall in the Best Technician and Inspector Competition.

In addition to the contest, the conference also included training workshops and driver training certification programs.

THREE RIVERS COLLEGE TO HOST BATTLE OF THE BULLS THIS WEEKEND

Rodeo action will be returning to Poplar Bluff this weekend.

The Three Rivers College Rodeo Team is hosting the Battle of the Bulls on July 22nd at Ray Clinton Park.

The event will begin at 7 pm and there will also be activities for kids and food trucks available at the park.

The cost to attend is $10 for adults and $5 for kids ages eight and under.

DATE SET FOR FRESHMAN ORIENTATION AT POPLAR BLUFF HIGH SCHOOL

Freshman orientation is set to be held next month at Poplar Bluff High School.

Officials say that orientation will begin at 8 am on Wednesday, August 16th.

Students will get to learn more about life at the High School, get their class schedule, pick up their school laptop, learn the layout of the campus, and meet their advisory class.

Students should also bring a backpack.

DEXTER PARKS AND RECREATION BLOOD DRIVE SCHEDULED FOR JULY 27TH

Dexter Parks and Recreation will be hosting a blood drive later this month.

According to the American Red Cross, the blood drive has been scheduled for 12:30 to 5:30 pm on Thursday, July 27th at the Dexter Parks and Recreation Gym on Fair Ground Drive.

APPLICATION PERIOD FOR MANAGED DEER HUNTS UNDERWAY IN MISSOURI

The application period for managed deer hunts in Missouri is underway.

According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, deer hunters can apply online through the MDC website for a shot at more than 100 managed deer hunts throughout the state this fall and winter.

The deer hunts will be for archery, muzzleloading, and modern firearms from mid-September through mid-January. Some of the hunts will be held specifically for youth or for people with disabilities.

The application period will be active through July 31st and hunters will be selected by a weighted random drawing.

ROAD CLOSURE PLANNED FOR EARLY THIS WEEK IN STODDARD COUNTY

Route CC in Stoddard County will be closed early this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.

According to officials, the work zone is located from Route HH to Route A near Baker.

Weather permitting, work will take place today and tomorrow from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., each day.
