POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT CRACKING DOWN ON LOITERING IN AREA PARKING LOTS

An increase in incidents at area businesses is prompting a crackdown by area police.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, in recent months the Poplar Bluff Police department has seen a surge in crimes committed when juveniles and young adults gather on local parking lots.

The crimes have included felony assaults, weapon offenses, thefts, and reckless driving.

Police officers have increased patrols and issued warnings to anyone loitering or ‘hanging out’ on properties marked with no loitering or trespassing signs.

In the near future they will issue criminal summonses, call parents to the scene, and may arrest repeat offenders. If officers approach a group, its members should remain in place and follow the officers' commands. Officials say that if officers have to chase a vehicle the occupants will likely be arrested, and their vehicle impounded.

Anyone with questions or concerns is encouraged to contact the Poplar Bluff Police Department.

IMPROVEMENTS SCHEDULED FOR THE DONIPHAN WATER SYSTEM THIS WEEK

The Doniphan Department of Utilities will be making improvements to the city’s water system beginning today.

According to city officials, the plan is to close sections of water mains in the east section of town, causing several customers to be without water pressure in these areas. Some residents may experience complete loss of water until upgrades are completed.

A precautionary boil notice for drinking water will be issued and remain in effect until all tests are completed.

Residents along East Locust Street east of Sunny Acres Drive going north to the city limits along with residents from Green Street going east to the city limits will be in the area of notice.
