ONE DEAD FOLLOWING SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH IN STODDARD COUNTY

One person has died following a single vehicle crash in Stoddard County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 23 year old Lydia Derossett, of Matthews, was driving on Route Y near Aquilla Monday afternoon, when her vehicle ran off the roadway, struck a utility pole, and overturned.

Derossett, who was reportedly not wearing a safety device, was transported to a Sikeston hospital where she was pronounced dead.

OFFICIALS INVESTIGATING SPILL AT MCKENZIE CREEK IN PIEDMONT

State officials are investigating a petroleum spill in Piedmont.

According to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, a report was made Monday evening through the Emergency Spill Hotline of a petroleum sheen on McKenzie Creek in Piedmont.

Environmental Emergency Response staff responded to the area Tuesday morning to investigate. They are working to identify the spill’s exact location and severity, try to determine its source, and ascertain whether and to what extent it poses a public or environmental health risk.

Monday evening, the Piedmont Fire Department placed a protective barrier and absorptive mats on the creek’s surface to effectively limit the spill’s spread.

The DNR regional office’s drinking water team also reached out to the city and determined that McKenzie Creek flows into the Black River downstream of the city’s water intake structure on the river, so the public water supply should be safe.

Officials say that an investigation into the spill is ongoing.

EF-2 TORNADO POSSIBLY TOUCHED DOWN MONDAY IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

A possible tornado touched down Monday afternoon in Southeast Missouri.

Officials with the National Weather Service tell KWOC News that survey teams have reported evidence of EF-2 tornado damage with wind speeds of 115 miles per hour in Scott County.

Officials say that the path is estimated to be approximately half a mile long.

The storm caused a home and grain silo to be destroyed in the Bertrand area. Two people also received minor injuries.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH NEAR DONIPHAN LEAVES ARKANSAS MAN WITH SERIOUS INJURIES

An Arkansas man was badly injured Monday evening in a motorcycle crash near Doniphan.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 24 year old Hunter Loggains, of Pocahontas, was riding the motorcycle on Route A in Ripley County, when the vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned.

Loggains suffered serious injuries in the crash and was taken by a private vehicle to a Pocahontas hospital.

BRIDGE REPAIRS CAUSING DELAYS IN CARTER COUNTY

U.S. Route 60 in Carter County is being reduced so contractor crews can perform bridge repairs including replacing guardrails and deck repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the section of roadway being reduced is located between Route 103 and James Street near Van Buren.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Monday, August 21st.

DUNKLIN COUNTY ROAD CLOSED FOR BRIDGE REPLACEMENT

Route 153 in Dunklin County will be closed for over four months as contractor crews replace the bridge over Taylor Slough.

According to MoDOT, the closure is located between Route 25 and Route EE near Kennett.

Weather permitting, the project is scheduled to be completed by Friday, December 1st.
