HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT, TEMPERATURES COULD REACH AROUND 100 DEGREES

A heat advisory is in effect for most of the area due to excessively high temperatures.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, temperatures of around 100 degrees and heat index values of up to 110 degrees are possible for portions of Southeast Missouri. The heat advisory will be in effect until 7 pm on Saturday.

You should remember to take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening and also drink plenty of fluids.

On Wednesday, Poplar Bluff tied its previous record for warmest recorded low on July 26th of 76 degrees, which was set in 2010.

FREE ATHLETE PHYSICALS TO BE HELD TODAY FOR POPLAR BLUFF STUDENT ATHLETES

Poplar Bluff High School and Junior High student athletes can get a free physical done today at the High School.

Physicals will start at 5:30 pm for athletes in the 7th and 8th grades, at 6:30 pm for 9th and 10th grades, and at 7:30 pm for 11th and 12th grades.

Poplar Bluff Athletic Director Kent Keith tells us that the first practice day for fall high school sports is set for Monday, August 7th.

Junior High sports will follow a week later, on Monday, August 14th.

NORTHEAST ARKANSAS MAN ARRESTED ON RAPE CHARGE

A Northeast Arkansas man has been taken into custody on a rape charge.

Greene County Sheriff Brad Snyder tells KWOC News that a subject was interviewed on July 17th who disclosed that 58 year old Cecil Hardin, of Marmaduke, had done inappropriate sexual things to them.

Snyder added that Hardin was later interviewed at the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, where he gave a self-incriminating statement.

Hardin was arrested on multiple charges including three counts of rape.

Snyder says that the investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time.

POPLAR BLUFF STREET TO BE CLOSED TO THROUGH TRAFFIC NEXT WEDNESDAY

A Poplar Bluff street will be closed to through traffic next week.

According to the Poplar Bluff Street Department, on Wednesday, August 2nd, crews will be overlaying Roxie Road from the West side of Shelby Road to the City Limits.

On Wednesday Roxie Road will be closed to through traffic, however residents that live in the affected area will be able to get out with an escort.

DEXTER PARKS AND RECREATION BLOOD DRIVE SCHEDULED FOR TODAY

Dexter Parks and Recreation will be hosting a blood drive this afternoon.

According to the American Red Cross, the blood drive has been scheduled for 12:30 to 5:30 pm at the Dexter Parks and Recreation Gym on Fair Ground Drive.

BRIDGE REPAIRS SCHEDULED FOR TODAY IN PEMISCOT COUNTY

County Road 444 in Pemiscot County will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge repairs.

The section of roadway being reduced is located from Route H to West Outer Road near Hayti.

Weather permitting, work will take place today from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m.
