SOURCE FOUND FOR PETROLEUM SPILL IN PIEDMONT AREA CREEK
Updating a story we brought to you last week, the source has been found for a petroleum spill at a Piedmont area creek.
According to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, a report was made July 24th through the Emergency Spill Hotline of a petroleum sheen on McKenzie Creek in Piedmont.
During the investigation, responders worked upstream of the sheen and found a stormwater drain where diesel fuel appeared to be entering the creek. They followed the drain across the street to a gas station where their fuel tank containment had around three inches of fuel and water standing in it.
It appeared that fuel and water had flowed from this area into the storm drains that lead to Mckenzie Creek. MFA Oil was notified who then hired an environmental contractor to begin addressing the issue.
Officials were able to verify that no contamination entered Piedmont’s public water intake on the river, so the system was and is not at risk.
