TWO IN CUSTODY IN CONNECTION TO CHILD’S DEATH

Two people are in custody in connection to a child’s death in the Missouri Bootheel.

Dunkin County Sheriff Bob Holder tells KWOC News that on January 4th, deputies were dispatched to a residence in Gibson in reference to a six month old child not breathing.

Medical personnel at the scene informed the deputies that the child was deceased. During an investigation into the death a toxicology report showed that the child had tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Nicholas Jain issued arrest warrants for the parents of the child, Tosha M. Hill and Cody L. Stark.

The charges include murder 2nd degree, endangering the welfare of a child, abuse and neglect of a child, and endangering the welfare of a child creating substantial risk.

Stark is being held in the Dunklin County Justice Center. Hill was arrested on Wednesday in Clay County and is awaiting extradition.

No bond has been set for either subject.

COUNTRYSIDE CHEVROLET CHAMPIONSHIP RODEO RETURNS TO BLACK RIVER COLISEUM TONIGHT

Rodeo action is returning this weekend to Poplar Bluff.

The Countryside Chevrolet Championship Rodeo will start at 7 pm both tonight and Saturday at the Black River Coliseum.

There will be multiple PRCA Pro Rodeo events including bronc busting, bull riding, and barrel racing.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. each night and children two years old and under get in for free.

Tickets are on sale online through Ticketmaster.

AREA SCHOOLS TO PLAY IN STATE BASKETBALL QUARTERFINALS

Multiple area schools are one step away from the state final four.

New Madrid County Central will play in the Class 3 Boys State Quarterfinal on Saturday against Kingston.

Audio coverage of the State Quarterfinal matchup will be broadcast on Shuffle 92.9 and online at Shuffle929.com.

Two Stoddard County schools will also be represented in the Boys state quarterfinals as Richland will face Chadwick in Class 1 while Puxico matches up with South Pemiscot in Class 2.

Today, the Portageville Girls will be in action in the Class 2 State Quarterfinal as they take on Principia.

MISSOURI REPUBLICANS TO HOLD CAUCUS THIS WEEKEND

Missouri Republicans will be coming together in each County this weekend to help select the party’s nominee for President of the United States.

Butler County Republican Committee Chairman Joe Leahy tells KWOC News that the Missouri GOP Caucus will be held at 10 am on March 2nd.

In Butler County, the event will be located at the Tinnin Fine Arts Center on the campus of Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff.

Lehay says that the facility was chosen to better host every caucus participant in Butler County.

Eligible candidates for nomination during the caucus are Donald Trump, Nikki Haley, David Stuckenberg, and Ryan Binkley.

Missouri GOP officials say that the party is utilizing County Caucuses for this election cycle due to the state legislature not reinstating the Presidential Preference Primary.

Missouri Democrats will be conducting their statewide primary election on March 23rd.

GIRL SCOUTS INFORMATIONAL MEETING SCHEDULED FOR TODAY IN POPLAR BLUFF

Poplar Bluff parents who want their children to join the girl scouts can attend an informational meeting scheduled for today.

Girls Scouts of the USA is hosting a meeting for kindergarten and first graders interested in joining the Daisies or Brownies today from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Poplar Bluff Kindergarten Center.

The meeting is a drop-in event and attendees are asked to enter through the back door.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN SENTENCED TO A DECADE BEHIND BARS

A Poplar Bluff man will spend a decade in federal prison on gun and drug related charges.

Officials with the United States Attorney's Office tell KWOC News that 27 year old Samuel D. Moore has been sentenced to serve 10 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to drug-trafficking and firearm related charges.

Last July, officers were dispatched to Moore’s residence in

Poplar Bluff in response to a reported domestic assault. Officers obtained a search warrant for the premises after observing multiple firearms and drug paraphernalia items inside the residence.

During the search, officers found a box containing 30 pounds of marijuana divided into one-pound bags along with a 9mm semi-automatic pistol with an attached 50-round high-capacity drum magazine.

Moore admitted that he intended to sell the marijuana for profit and that he possessed the firearm in furtherance of his drug-trafficking activities.

After serving the 10-year sentence, Moore will be placed on supervised release for three years.
