TWO FLOWN TO AREA HOSPITALS FOLLOWING CRASH NEAR POPLAR BLUFF

Two people were flown to area hospitals Wednesday night following a crash near Poplar Bluff.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 20 year old Bryanna James, of Piedmont, was driving on US Highway 67 when her vehicle struck a vehicle that was disabled in the roadway.

James suffered serious injuries in the crash. A young passenger in her vehicle received moderate injuries. Both were flown to area hospitals.

There was nobody in the disabled vehicle when the crash occurred.

POPLAR BLUFF BUDDY BALL TO HOST VALENTINE’S DANCE TONIGHT

Poplar Bluff Buddy Ball and PB Parks and Recreation will be hosting a Valentine’s Dance tonight.

Officials say the dance is being held in honor of BuddyBall participants and friends in the community with mental, physical, and developmental disabilities.

The Dance is scheduled to begin at 6 PM at the Westwood Event Center Ballroom. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10.

NEW MADRID COUNTY CENTRAL BASKETBALL RANKED TOP IN THE NATION AMONG SMALL TOWN SCHOOLS

The 21-1 New Madrid County Central Eagles have jumped to the #1 spot in the Max Preps Small Town Top 25 High School basketball rankings.

The Eagles have 16 straight wins heading into the final week of the season and are led by three high-scoring seniors. Jadis Jones, is averaging 28 points per game, B.J. Williamson averages 23, while AJ Ruff averages 8 points per game.

Jones also leads the team in rebounds at 12.5 per game, while Williamson leads the team in steals at 3.6 per game.

Schools with under 1,000 students and in towns with a population under 10,000 are eligible for the rankings.

INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY AFTER REPORTS OF SHOTS BEING FIRED IN PARAGOULD

An investigation is underway and one subject is in custody following a report of shots being fired in Paragould.

According to Captain Jason Elms with the Paragould Police Department, shortly before 10 am Thursday morning, Emergency Services received multiple calls of shots being fired.

At the scene, officers were not able to locate a subject, but discovered that no one had been injured. Officers were able to obtain video giving them a description of the suspect and the belongings they were carrying.

Shortly before noon, multiple reports came in that the subject was back in the area.

Officers were quickly able to respond to the area and take 27 year old Jonathan Ratliff, of Memphis, into custody. Ratliff has been charged with possession of a firearm by certain persons, terroristic act, and criminal trespass.

RUN THE LAKE 5K TO BE HELD THIS WEEKEND

The Poplar Bluff Trails Coalition has scheduled a 5K race for this weekend.

The Run the Lake 5K will start at 9 am on Saturday at the Asher Creek Trail at Lake Wappapello State Park.

THE DEADLINE IS TODAY TO PURCHASE TAGS FOR BULKY ITEM PICKUP

Today is the final day for Poplar Bluff residents to purchase tags for this month’s Bulky Item Pickup.

Residents can purchase bulk item tags from the City Collector’s office at City Hall for $20. The tags entitle you to the removal of four bulk items, such as couches or refrigerators. Tires may be collected for a charge of $3 per tire with a limit of four tires.

No construction materials or small items will be picked up and the program is for residential areas only.

Today is the final day to purchase item tags at City Hall to be included in next week’s pick up, which will be conducted on Tuesday, February 13th.
