CONDITIONS FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE STORMS TODAY
Weather officials are warning of the possibility of severe weather today.
According to a Hazardous Weather Outlook from the National Weather Service, thunderstorms are forecast for today. If enough
instability can develop severe storms are possible with damaging
winds the main threat along with large hail. Locally heavy rainfall may also cause flash flooding. An isolated tornado is also possible.
Officials say that conditions will be most favorable for severe storms late this afternoon into this evening.
LISA HAFFORD NAMED POPLAR BLUFF HUMAN RESOURCE DIRECTOR
A new Human Resource Director has been named for the city of Poplar Bluff.
City manager Matt Winters tells KWOC News that Lisa Hafford has been hired for the position.
Hafford has nine years of experience as the Vice President of HR at Southern Bank and as a Certified Human Resource Professional.
She is also the owner/operator of two locally owned businesses.
Winters says that he believes that Hafford will bring a fresh perspective and innovative solutions to address the city's HR needs, ultimately benefiting the employees and the community as a whole.
POPLAR BLUFF PARKS AND RECREATION WELCOMING SUMMER WITH EVENT NEXT WEEKEND
An event to mark the beginning of Summer will be held next weekend at Whiteley Park in Poplar Bluff.
Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation is hosting Welcome Summer 2024 from 4 to 7 pm on Saturday, June 1st.
The event, sponsored by Missouri Highlands Healthcare, will include a cruise in, live band, food trucks, yard games, a dunk booth, crafts, and more.

MAN FOUND IN POSSESSION OF SUBSTANCE BELIEVED TO BE METH IN POPLAR BLUFF
A Poplar Bluff man was taken into custody on Monday.
According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, on Monday, officers received information that 41 year old Michael Derrick was in possession of a controlled substance and had an active warrant.
Officers made contact with Derrick and found him in possession of two small bags containing a crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine.
Derrick was taken into custody and lodged in the Butler County Justice Center.
MODOT CREWS TO BE WORKING NEAR PORTAGEVILLE
Route 162 in New Madrid County will be reduced to one lane through the end of the month as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.
The section of roadway is located from Route B to U.S. 61 near Portageville.
Work is scheduled to take place today through Thursday, May 30 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day.
PAVEMENT REPAIR PROJECT UNDERWAY IN PEMISCOT COUNTY
Route A in Pemiscot County will be reduced to one lane through early June as construction crews perform pavement repairs.
The section of roadway being reduced is located from Route EE to Interstate 55 near Wardell.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Friday, June 7th.
