PLANS UNDERWAY TO REPLACE TWO BRIDGES IN BUTLER COUNTY

The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced plans to replace two bridges in Southeast Missouri.

According to officials, the bridges are located on Route MM over Harviell Ditch, and on Route 158 over Craven Ditch.

Work to replace the bridges could begin as early as January 2025. The roadway will be closed in the vicinity of the Route MM and Route 158 bridges for approximately 90 days as construction is underway. Completion is anticipated by November 2026.

Any person who is affected by the projects can request that a public meeting be held in regard to the proposed improvements.

Comments and questions may also be submitted online at Modot.org/form/ButlerBridges. Comments should be submitted by July 23.

FREE STUDENT ATHLETE PHYSICALS SCHEDULED FOR NEXT MONTH IN POPLAR BLUFF

Poplar Bluff High School and Junior High student athletes can get a free physical done next month at the High School.

Physicals will be conducted beginning at 5:30 pm on Thursday, August 1st for athletes in the 7th and 8th grades, beginning at 6:30 pm for 9th and 10th grades, and beginning at 7:30 pm for 11th and 12th grades.

POPLAR BLUFF JUNIOR EAGLES HOSTING CAR SHOW TO COLLECT MONEY FOR WOUNDED WARRIOR

A car show is coming up this weekend in Poplar Bluff to raise money for Wounded Warriors.

The Pride in your Ride Car Show, presented by the Poplar Bluff Junior Eagles, has been scheduled for 11 am to 4 pm on Saturday at the Bluff City Eagles on Broadway Street.

All vehicles are welcome and there will be an entry fee of $15.

There will also be door prizes, music, a dunk tank, raffles, and more.

CITY OF FISK TO HOST PUBLIC HEARING ON TUESDAY

Another local community will be holding a public hearing next week concerning a grant application.

The city of Fisk is proposing a project that consists of, but is not limited to, the paving and repair of the existing roadbed, addressing settlement issues, as well as overlaying and paving all or sections of various streets within the city.

Approximately 312 residences will benefit from the project and the estimated cost is expected to be up to $500,000. The city will provide approximately $10,000 in local cash match while applying for up to $500,000 in CDBG Funding.

A public hearing about the project will begin at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23 at the Fisk City Hall.

FAFSA FRENZY EVENT SCHEDULED FOR NEXT WEEK AT THREE RIVERS COLLEGE

An event has been scheduled for next week in Poplar Bluff to help students and their families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

FAFSA Frenzy is scheduled for 10 am to 2 pm on Wednesday, July 24th at the Westover Administration Building on the campus of Three Rivers College.

Staff from the Missouri College and Career Attainment Network will be available to answer questions and provide one-on-one assistance with FAFSA completion. The event is available for free to students.

DEADLINE TO REGISTER FOR FALL YOUTH BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL IN POPLAR BLUFF IS NEXT WEEK

Now is the time to register your team for fall youth baseball and softball in Poplar Bluff.

According to Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation, the final day for teams to be registered for the league is July 26th. Leagues for fall youth baseball and softball will be available for children from 7 to 12 years old.

Rosters must have 12 or 13 players per team.

Registration forms are available at the Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation office on North Second Street and online at pbparks.org.
