PUXICO INDIANS PLAY TODAY IN CLASS 2 STATE BASKETBALL SEMIFINALS

The Puxico Indians will be playing tonight with a trip to the state finals on the line.

The Indians will tip off against the Canton Tigers at 6 pm tonight in the Class 2 boys state basketball semifinals.

The game is being played at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.

If the Indians win tonight, they will play at 8 pm on Thursday in the State Championship game.

The state semifinal will be broadcast live over the radio on Today’s Talk KWOC and Shuffle 92.9. Audio from the game will also be on both stations' Facebook pages and the River Radio Youtube page.

The Portageville Lady Bulldogs will also be playing in the Class 3 state SemiFinal today against Principia at 2 pm.

OVER 70 GAMING MACHINES SEIZED DURING EXECUTION OF EIGHT SEARCH WARRANTS IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

Authorities in Southeast Missouri executed a crackdown on gaming machines in the Missouri bootheel this week.

According to the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office, on Monday the Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Malden Department of Public Safety, Kennett Police Department, and Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control Division, executed eight search warrants throughout Dunklin County.

This resulted in the seizure of 73 machines along with an undisclosed amount of money.

Dunklin County Sheriff Nick Darter says that these machines are causing problems in families and around the community. Darter added that the investigations are ongoing.

55TH ANNUAL CORNED BEEF AND CABBAGE TO BE HELD THIS WEEKEND

The 55th annual Corned Beef and Cabbage event in Poplar Bluff is coming up this weekend.

The event has been scheduled for 11 am to 6 pm on Saturday, March 15th at the Knights of Columbus Hall, located at 2280 Grand Avenue.

Tickets are $16 for adults and $8 for children at the door. Dinner will include corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, and dessert.

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR POPLAR BLUFF YOUTH BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL

Registration is underway for adult and youth baseball and softball in Poplar Bluff.

According to the Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation Department, registration will be available through March 28th. For adults, there will be women’s and men’s leagues in addition to a men’s church league. Youth ball will be available for kids ages three to 14.

PADDLEFISH SEASON BEGINS THIS WEEKEND IN MISSOURI

Paddlefish season is beginning this weekend for fishermen across the state of Missouri.

The season for the state’s major paddlefish waters -- Lake of the Ozarks, Harry S. Truman Reservoir, and Table Rock Lake – along with most other waters in the state runs from March 15th through April 30th.

The season for the Mississippi River is March 15th through May 15th with a fall season between September 15th and December 15th.

Paddlefish -- named for their large, paddle-shaped snouts -- are an ancient species that can grow to seven feet and weigh more than 100 pounds.

SHOOTING SPORTS YOUTH TRAINING CERTIFICATION CLASS SCHEDULED FOR THIS MONTH

Area children wanting to participate in shooting sports will have a chance to learn critical safety techniques at a class this month.

A shooting sports youth training certification class will be held from 9 am to 2 pm on Saturday, March 29th at the Butler County University of Missouri Extension Office on Lindsay Avenue in Poplar Bluff.

There is no charge for the class, which is required for kids to participate in 4-H Youth Shooting Sports programs.
