TWO SOUTHEAST MISSOURI BASKETBALL TEAMS TO PLAY FOR SPOTS IN STATE SEMIFINALS THIS WEEKEND

Two Southeast Missouri basketball teams will take to the court this weekend with dreams of making it to the state final four.

The Puxico Indians will travel to South Iron tonight to take on the Panthers in the Class 2 boys state quarterfinal. The game will begin at 6 pm and will be broadcast live over the radio on Today’s Talk KWOC and Shuffle 92.9. The game will also be on both stations' Facebook pages and the River Radio Youtube page.

The Neelyville Lady Tigers will host the St. Vincent Lady Indians on Saturday in the Class 2 girls state quarterfinal. Tip-off is set for 3:30 pm and can be listened to over the radio on Today’s Talk KWOC 93.3 FM/930 AM, on the KWOC Facebook page and the River Radio Youtube page.

Video coverage of both games will be available at MSHSAA.tv for a fee.

DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME BEGINS THIS WEEKEND

It is once again time for your clocks to spring forward.

Daylight Saving Time will begin at 2 am Sunday morning. Remember to set your clocks forward one hour before you go to bed Saturday night.

KWOC News spoke with Poplar Bluff Fire Chief Mike Moffitt who wants to remind everyone to change the batteries in their smoke detectors this weekend.

Daylight Saving Time is scheduled to come to an end this year on Sunday, November 2nd.

COUNTRYSIDE CHEVROLET CHAMPIONSHIP RODEO RETURNS TO BLACK RIVER COLISEUM IN MARCH

Rodeo action will be returning to Poplar Bluff tonight.

The Countryside Chevrolet Championship Rodeo will start at 7 pm both today and tomorrow at the Black River Coliseum. Doors will open at 5:30 pm each night.

There will be multiple PRCA events as a part of the rodeo.

Tickets are on sale online through Ticketmaster as well as at the BRC Box Office and children two years old and under get in for free.

PARAGOULD MAN ARRESTED ON CHARGE OF SEXUAL ASSAULT

A Paragould man is in custody on multiple counts of sexual assault.

According to a warrant affidavit, 34 year old Adam Harper, is facing charges including two counts of 2nd degree sexual assault, sexual indecency with a child, and endangering the welfare of a minor.

The Arkansas Child Abuse Hotline received a report this week in reference to two juveniles who had made disclosures of sexual abuse.

During an interview on Wednesday, Harper reportedly made incriminating statements about the disclosures and advised that he had told multiple people about what he had done.

He is being held in the Greene County Detention Center on no bond.

DEADLINE APPROACHING TO REMOVE ITEMS BEFORE POPLAR BLUFF STREET DEPARTMENT ANNUAL CITY CEMETERY CLEAN UP

Poplar Bluff residents still have time to remove objects they want to keep before the annual city cemetery clean up.

The Poplar Bluff Cemetery Department will be cleaning both the City and Woodlawn Cemeteries beginning on Monday, March 10th, with the project anticipated to be completed by April 1st.

Everyone is asked to remove any flower arrangements, personal items, and decorations that you would like to keep before March 10th.

DEADLINE IS TODAY TO PURCHASE TAGS FOR BULKY ITEM PICKUP

Today is the final day for Poplar Bluff residents to purchase tags for this month’s Bulky Item Pickup.

Residents can purchase bulk item tags from the City Collector’s office at City Hall for $20. The tags entitle you to the removal of four bulk items, such as couches or refrigerators. Tires may be collected for a charge of $3 per tire with a limit of four tires.

No construction materials or small items will be picked up and the program is for residential areas only.

Today is the final day to purchase item tags at City Hall to be included in next week’s pick up, which will be conducted on Tuesday, March 11th.

DRAINAGE REPAIR PROJECT SCHEDULED FOR THIS MONTH ON ROUTE F NEAR DEXTER

Route F in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane for the rest of this month so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform drainage repairs. 

The section of roadway being reduced is located from Route 60 to County Road 468 near Dexter.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through Monday, March 31.
