RIPLEY COUNTY MAN ARRESTED AFTER A YEAR LONG INVESTIGATION  

A Ripley County man is caught after a multi-year criminal investigation.

Sergeant Clark Parrott with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News, authorities obtained an arrest warrant for 66 year old Kenneth White.  He was located at his residence in Fairdealing and taken into custody.

White has been charged with 17 separate counts, including first-degree statutory sodomy, incest, and statutory rape of a child under the age of 14.  Parrott says this was a joint effort by the Ripley County Sheriff's Office, the Carter County Sheriff's Office, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

White was transported to the Carter County Jail where he is being held on a $200,000 cash bond.

SILVA MAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE FELONY CHARGES OVER THE WEEKEND

A Silva man is facing multiple felony charges following his arrest Saturday afternoon.

According to Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 58 year old Lloyd Foster was arrested on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a misdemeanor amount of marijuana.

Foster was transported to the Wayne County Jail, where he was booked and lodged.

QULIN MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES OVER THE WEEKEND

A Qulin man is facing drug charges following his arrest in Butler County.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 22 year old Keith Jones was recently arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jones was transported to the Butler County Justice Center, where is has booked and later released.

NEW DAY MINISTRIES TO HOST FEED AND SEED EVENT

OXLY MAN ARRESTED ON SEVERAL DRUGS CHARGES OVER THE WEEKEND IN BUTLER COUNTY

An Oxly man is facing several drug charges after his arrest Friday Night in Butler County.

Sergeant Clark Parrott with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that 44 year old David Hatton was arrested shortly before 10 pm on felony charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Parrott says that Hatton is also charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia – methamphetamine and possession of marijuana.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES

Poplar Bluff police arrested a man last week on drug charges.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department on Thursday evening, an officer found 23 year old Joshua Wilkerson to be in possession of a plastic bag with an undisclosed amount of marijuana and a smoking pipe which field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Wilkerson was taken into custody on charges of possession of a controlled substance– methamphetamine, possession of 35 grams or less of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

HIGHWAY PATROL URGES DRIVER TO BE CAUTIOUS WITH CHANGING WEATHER

With temperatures starting to approach freezing overnights across the state, the Missouri State Highway Patrol is asking drivers to be cautious.

Colonel J. Bret Johnson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that widely varying temperatures can leave roadways or bridge floors covered with frost.

Even though roads appear to be clear, it is important to slow down and watch for slick areas, especially early in the morning.

Johnson also says that temperature changes also cause fog to develop. Drivers need to slow down, turn on their headlights, and be prepared to stop in foggy conditions.

ONE DEAD, ANOTHER SERIOUSLY INJURED, FOLLOWING SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK IN PEMISCOT COUNTY  

A Hayti woman is dead following a single vehicle wreck Thursday morning.

Sergeant Clark Parrott with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that a vehicle driven by 60 year old Everlene Fane ran off a County Road, struck a ditch, and overturned near Hayti.

Fane was pronounced dead at the scene. A 79 year old passenger in the vehicle suffered serious injuries and was flown to a Memphis hospital.

DRUGS AND STOLEN FIREARM FOUND DURING TRAFFIC STOP

Two men have been taken into custody in connection to a traffic stop in Poplar Bluff.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, an officer conducted the stop shortly after 6 pm Wednesday for an improper registration. During the stop the officer observed marijuana in the vehicle.

A further search resulted in officers finding marijuana, pills, and multiple guns, including one that was identified as stolen.

21 year old Tavion Young and 18 year old Keith Farr, both of Malden, were taken into custody.

Both, Young and Farr are facing charges of receiving stolen property, unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of a controlled substance.

POPLAR BLUFF CHURCH TO HOST UNITY SERVICE THIS WEEKEND WITH POLICE OFFICERS

A Poplar Bluff church has announced they will be hosting a Unity Service on Sunday with law enforcement.

The service, “Bridging the Gap,” will begin at 5 pm at Mt. Calvary Powerhouse Church on Speedway Drive.

TWO ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO REPORTED STOLEN VEHICLE

A stolen vehicle report led to the arrest of two people Wednesday in Poplar Bluff.

KWOC News spoke with Patrolman Jeff Hovis with the Poplar Bluff Police Department about the incident:

Additionally, Hovis said that Tropf is lodged at the Butler County Justice Center on tampering charges along with a no bond probation and parole warrant.

TWO SERIOUSLY INJURED IN HEAD-ON COLLISION

Two people were flown to a St. Louis hospital Thursday in connection to a head on collision in Iron County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred when a vehicle driven by 17 year old Hunter Skaggs, of Rolla, ran off the side of the road, overcorrected, and then hit another vehicle head on.

Both Skaggs and the driver of the second vehicle, 47 year old Lockianna Bennett, of Patterson, were seriously injured in the collision.

PERFORMANCES OF JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT TO BEGIN NEXT WEEK

Center Stage and the Three Rivers College Music Department are preparing for their upcoming performances of the hit musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

The shows at the Tinnin Fine Arts Center will begin at 7 pm on November 12^th, 13^th, and 14^th. A final performance is scheduled for 2 pm on November 15^th.

The musical retells the Biblical story of Joseph and his coat of many colors as an energetic, family-friendly musical.

Tickets can be purchased for $10 at the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce and the Three Rivers Financial Services Office. Tickets also will be sold at the door.

TWO POPLAR BLUFF MEN ARRESTED ON ASSAULT CHARGES  

Continuing to follow a story we brought you first, authorities have arrested two men in connection, to an assault in Poplar Bluff.

 Both Buddy Lacy and Joshua Blocker are charged with 1^st Degree Assault and are lodged in the Butler County Justice Center on $250,000 cash bond.

TWO ARRESTED ON HEROIN CHARGES IN WAYNE COUNTY

Two Piedmont residents are facing heroin charges following their arrest Wednesday night in Wayne County.

Sergeant Clark Parrott with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that 43 year old Nathan Coleman and 38 year old Yolanda Braden were arrested shortly after 8 pm on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – heroin.

Parrott says that Braden is also charged with possession of a controlled substance for hydrocodone and Coleman had warrants out of Pemiscot and Butler Counties.

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR SPRING SEMESTER AT THREE RIVERS COLLEGE

Registration is now open for the upcoming spring semester at Three Rivers College.

New and returning students can register for classes at the Poplar Bluff campus and the centers in Sikeston, Dexter, Kennett, Malden, Willow Springs, Piedmont, and Cape Girardeau.

Those interested in enrolling can browse available courses by clicking “Search for Classes” at trcc.edu. Current students, with advisor approval, can register online through the myTRCC system.

Prospective students must fill out a free application and attend a orientation session to be eligible to register for classes. For assistance or to schedule an orientation session, contact the Welcome Center at 573-840-9605.

Registration will continue through January 15^th, with the semester beginning on January 19^th.

POSSIBLE THUNDERSTORMS IN THE FORECAST FOR TONIGHT

With the weather forecast calling for possible thunderstorms tonight, that also means we could be looking at some severe weather.

FLU CLINIC SCHEDULED FOR TODAY IN POPLAR BLUFF

The Butler County Health Department will continue their series of free flu clinics today in Poplar Bluff.

The clinic is scheduled for 8:30 am to 4 pm at the Butler County Health Department.

Officials at the Health Department say a yearly flu vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 months and older as the first and most important step in protecting against the flu.

Flu vaccines are designed to protect against the main flu viruses that research suggests will be the most common during the upcoming season.

Children 6 to 23 months old and adults over 18 years of age will be offered the flu shot at the clinic, while children who are 24 months to 18 years of age will have the choice of receiving a flu mist or the injection.

SOFTBALL AND FOOTBALL PLAYER NAMED ATHLETES OF THE MONTH

A Softball and Football player have been chosen as October Athletes of the Month at Poplar Bluff High School.

Shelby Sievers and Steven Haley were chosen for the honor by the Poplar Bluff Mules Booster Club.

Sievers is ranked 20th in her class with a 10.643 GPA. She also holds the record for hits in a single season with 50, runs batted in with 34, and extra base hits with 21. Her batting average is .543 and her pitching record is 12-3.

Haley maintains an 11.100 GPA, and scored a 31 on his ACTs. He had 21 tackles for loss, two sacks, two forced fumbles and two interceptions during the season.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL RESIGNS FOLLOWING ACCUSATION  

The Naylor Assistant Principal who is facing a rape charge has resigned from his position at the school.

The Naylor Board of Education has accepted the resignation of 52 year old John Mullins, of Gatewood.

Mullins was arrested in October after a student told authorities that Mullins had sexually assaulted her.

Mullins has been charged with 1^st degree rape, 1^st degree sodomy, and two counts of sexual contact with a student.

ANNAPOLIS MAN FACING MULTIPLE CHARGES FOLLOWING ARREST

Authorities have arrested an Iron County man on multiple charges in Butler County.

 Sample told KWOC News that the subject has been identified as 31 year old Nathaniel McCormick, of Annapolis.

PIEDMONT MAN ARRESTED ON ASSAULT WARRANT

A Piedmont man was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon on an assault warrant.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 28 year old Jeffrey Roux was arrested on a Carter County warrant for assault at around 4:30 pm in Wayne County.

Following his arrest, Roux was held at the Wayne County Jail.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN FACING ASSAULT CHARGE

A Poplar Bluff man is facing an assault charge in connection to an incident Monday morning.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, a woman told officers that a vehicle driven by 28 year old Larrecus Thomas had struck her vehicle multiple times. The woman said Thomas had also banged on her window and attempted to get in her vehicle.

Thomas told police that he just wanted his cell phone back from the woman.

Thomas was arrested and lodged at the Butler County Justice Center on a charge of 2^nd degree assault.

BLOOMFIELD MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG WARRANT

A Bloomfield man is facing a drug charge following his arrest in Stoddard County.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 25 year old Zachary Mitchell was recently arrested on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

Mitchell’s bond was set at $15,000 cash.

MODOT TO TEST WINTER READINESS TODAY WITH STATEWIDE DRILL

The Missouri Department of Transportation will be conducting a statewide test today to test the department’s readiness for the upcoming winter season.

During the drill, MoDOT employees will react to a simulated forecast of significant snow for the entire state. The department’s emergency operations centers will activate and maintenance employees will be deployed to their trucks.

Motorists may notice increased numbers of MoDOT vehicles on state routes during the drill. In rural areas, crews will deploy after 8 a.m. In urban areas, the drill will not begin until after 9 am. The exercise should be completed by 3 pm.

11 YEAR OLD GIRL HIT BY VEHICLE IN BUTLER COUNTY  

An 11 year old Poplar Bluff girl was hit by a vehicle Friday afternoon in Butler County.

Sergeant Clark Parrott with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that the girl ran into the path of a vehicle on Highway 53, one mile south of Poplar Bluff at around 4:30 pm Friday.

The girl was flown to a Memphis hospital with serious injuries.

MAN ARRESTED AFTER ATTEMPTING TO RUN FROM OFFICER

A Qulin man is facing multiple charges, including resisting arrest, following an incident with an officer at a Poplar Bluff business.

Chief Deputy Jeff Rolland with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tells KWOC News that the officer was at the business Sunday evening when an employee alerted him that a male subject had used a razor knife to cut the packaging of a BB gun.

The officer contacted the subject, who said his name was Steven Rick. During an ID Check, the officer was told that Steven Rick was incarcerated. After the officer told the subject this, the man allegedly began to run.

He was apprehended and admitted to the officer that his name was Joseph Rick. Rick was taken into custody on charges including resisting arrest and 2^nd degree property damage.

PAVEMENT REPAIRS SCHEDULED FOR TODAY IN BUTLER COUNTY

Motorists in Butler County should expect delays today on Route UU.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route UU will be reduced to one lane from 10 am to 3:30 pm for pavement repairs.

The work zone will be located between Route 53 and County Road 320.

CAMPBELL MAN FACING ATTEMPTED BURGLARY CHARGE OUT OF STODDARD COUNTY

A Campbell man was recently taken into custody on an attempted burglary charge.

Few details about the incident are available, but the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department tells KWOC News that 51 year old William Joyner is facing a charge of 2^nd degree attempted burglary.

Joyner’s bond was set at $7,500.

BICYCLE RIDER HIT BY VEHICLE IN WARDELL

A bicycle rider suffered serious injuries Friday when he was hit by a vehicle.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 20 year old Carlos Holder, of Wardell, was attempting to pass the bicyclist, 45 year old Tommy Collins, also of Wardell, when Holder’s vehicle struck Collins.

Collins was seriously injured and flown to a Memphis hospital following the incident.

MAN CHARGED WITH FIRST DEGREE MURDER IN WARDELL SHOOTING

Updating a story we brought to you last week, a Wardell man is facing a murder charge in connection to the shooting death of Russell Gray Jr.

Gray was shot and killed Thursday evening at a residence in Wardell.

According to authorities, 51 year old Paul Wayne Rudd was taken into custody and has been charged with 1^st degree murder and armed criminal action.

MONTH LONG BRIDGE REPAIR PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY IN WAYNE COUNTY

Route 34 in Wayne County will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction for most of this month so contractor crews can perform bridge repairs.

The section of roadway to be reduced is located from Missouri Route 49 to U.S. Route 67.

Work will be performed through Wednesday, November 25^th from 6 am to 6 pm daily.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED OVER THE WEEKEND ON ROBBERY CHARGES  

A Poplar Bluff man is facing robbery charges after he pulled a knife on an off duty officer.

According to Deputy Chief Jeff Rolland with the Poplar Bluff Police Department, 57 year old Brian Conley attempted to steal shoes not once but twice from a Poplar Bluff Business.  On the second attempt he was confronted by a loss prevention officer, (which is an off-duty Poplar Bluff Police Officer.)  Conley, then allegedly pulled a knife on the off- duty officer in a threatening manner.  The officer was able to take Conley into custody without further incident.

He was transported to the Butler County Justice Center, where he was booked on charges of 1^st Degree Robbery, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Stealing.

DEXTER WOMAN ARRESTED ON DRUG RELATED WARRANT

A Dexter woman was taken into custody recently on a drug related warrant.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 51 year old Joy Lynn Ward was arrested on a warrant for stealing a controlled substance.

Her bond was set at $50,000.

MULTIPLE BLOOD DRIVES SCHEDULED FOR THIS MONTH IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

The American Red Cross has announced several blood drives that will be held this month in Southeast Missouri.

A blood drive has been scheduled for 9 am to 2 pm on November 4^th at the Senath Hornersville High School.

Additional blood drives will be held on November 6^th at Poplar Bluff High School and November 9^th at East Carter County High School.

HIGHWAY K VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT FUNDRAISER TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 7^TH

The Highway K Volunteer Fire Department in Doniphan has scheduled their annual chili supper and bake sale fundraiser for this Saturday.

The event will be held at the firehouse at 6 pm. In addition to the good food, this year will feature a raffle worth $400 in auto service. Adults get in for $5, kids under 12 for $3.50.

All funds from the event will go to buying equipment for the fire fighters and covering operating expenses.

ESSEX MAN ARRESTED ON AN ASSAULT WARRANT OVER THE WEEKEND

An Essex man is facing an assault charge following his arrest Saturday in Stoddard County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 48 year old Ricky Smith was taken into custody on a warrant for 2^nd Degree Assault.

Smith was transported to the Stoddard County Jail on a $4,500.00 cash bond.

FISH FRY TO BE HELD AT WHEATLEY BUILDING THIS WEEKEND

Gold Star Lodge #168 is sponsoring a Fish Fry this weekend at the Wheatley Building in Poplar Bluff.

The fish fry is scheduled for 11 am to 2 pm on Friday, November 6^th. The menu will include fish, spaghetti, cole slaw, and dessert.

FUNDRAISER FOR WOMAN INJURED IN CAR WRECK TO BE HELD AT RODGERS THEATRE

BUTLER COUNTY TORNADO SIRENS TO BE TESTED TODAY

Authorities in Butler County will be testing the tornado sirens today.

According to Butler County Emergency Management Director Robbie Myers, the sirens are scheduled to be tested today at noon.

Myers says that the tests will be conducted every month on the first Monday.

AUTHORITIES INVESTIGATING SHOOTING IN PEMISCOT COUNTY  

One person was reportedly shot Thursday night in Pemiscot County.

Few details are available about the shooting, other than it occurred in Wardell. The Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Department has asked the Missouri State Highway Patrol to assist with the investigation.

MAN ARRESTED AFTER ALLEGEDLY TRYING TO RUN FROM OFFICER IN POPLAR BLUFF

A man was arrested Wednesday night after he allegedly attempted to run from an officer during a traffic stop.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, the officer had conducted the stop after noticing a vehicle with no front license plate.

The vehicle pulled into a driveway and then 36 year old Douglas Henson exited the right rear door and ran south. The officer followed and arrested Henson following a short foot pursuit.

Henson reportedly has an active felony warrant out of St. Genevieve County for dangerous drugs.

YOUTH FIREARMS DEER SEASON TO BEGIN THIS WEEKEND

Young hunters will be out in the woods this weekend for youth firearms deer season.

The season is set to run on October 31^st and November 1^st. Harvest hours are one half hour before sunrise to one half hour after sunset.

Hunters must be at least 6 and no older than 15 on Saturday to participate. Additional regulations and permits are available online at the Missouri Department of Conservation website.

HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS FROM THE POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT

Halloween is here and Poplar Bluff Police Chief Danny Whiteley has some tips to help keep your child safe while trick or treating.

Chief Whiteley says parents should establish a route for children, making sure they stay within familiar areas and surroundings. An adult should accompany young children. Parents should also remind kids not to enter strangers' homes or cars, and to avoid homes without an outside light on.

Be sure to tell your children to not eat treats until they get home and remember to inspect all treats before allowing your kids to eat them.

KENNETT WOMAN ARRESTED ON FELONY DRUG CHARGE

A Kennett woman is facing a felony drug charge in connection to her arrest Thursday in Dunklin County.

Sergeant Clark Parrott with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that 31 year old Shavini Chauhan was arrested Thursday afternoon on a felony charge of possession of drugs with intent to distribute.

Chauhan was taken to the Dunklin County Jail following the arrest.

MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER ALLEGEDLY MAKING INAPPROPRIATE COMMENTS TO 911 OPERATOR

Officials say a 47 year old Poplar Bluff man has been taken into custody after he allegedly made inappropriate comments to a 911 operator.

3^RD ANNUAL IRON MOUNTAIN MARKET FALL FESTIVAL SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEKEND

The Iron Mountain Market in Poplar Bluff will be hosting their third annual Fall Festival on Saturday.

Events will include the Grilled Cheese Cook-Off and Costume Contest in addition to vendors with crafts, baked goods, fall produce, food, and more.

TWO TEENAGERS SERIOUSLY INJURED IN DUNKLIN COUNTY WRECK  

Two teenagers received serious injuries following a motorcycle wreck in Dunklin County.

Sergeant Clark Parrott with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that the wreck occurred shortly before 7 pm Wednesday near Campbell.

The motorcycle was being driven by 19 year old Joshua Paxton, of Campbell, when it was struck from behind by another vehicle.  Paxton and a 16 year old female passenger were then thrown from the motorcycle.

The motorcycle reportedly had no rear lights or reflectors when it was struck.

POPLAR BLUFF SHOOTING VICTIM DIES

The victim of a shooting earlier this month in Poplar Bluff has passed away.

According to authorities 52 year old Mitchell Dugger was shot during a family dispute at a Poplar Bluff hospital on October 14^th.

He reportedly died on Tuesday.

58 year old Eddie Skorcz, of Poplar Bluff was arrested on charges of 1^st degree assault and armed criminal action following the shooting.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS ON MURDER CHARGE

A Poplar Bluff man has been sentenced to two decades in prison after pleading guilty to a murder charge.

According to Missouri Case Net, Matthew Jenkins was sentenced Tuesday to 20 years in the Department of Corrections on a charge of 2^nd degree murder.

The charge stems from an incident in January of 2013 where Jenkins hit both of his parents repeatedly with an aluminum baseball bat. His father, Carl Jenkins, died a few weeks after the attack.

MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGE IN KENNETT

A Kennett man is facing a drug charge following his arrest on Wednesday.

According to the Kennett Police Department, officers were checking a residence Wednesday morning for an individual that was wanted on a warrant.

At the residence they made contact with 24 year old Robert Davis and also observed narcotics and paraphernalia laying in plain view.

Davis was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute along with a Dunklin County warrant.

TWIN RIVERS HIGH SCHOOL TO HOST FLU CLINIC THIS EVENING

Anyone looking to get a flu shot will have the opportunity this evening in Broseley.

The Butler County Health Department is hosting a free flu clinic at Twin Rivers High School from 3:30 to 6 pm today.

Officials at the Health Department say a yearly flu vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 months and older and it’s the first and most important step in protecting against the flu.

Flu vaccines are designed to protect against the main flu viruses that research suggests will be the most common during the upcoming season.

Children 6 to 23 months old and adults over 18 years of age will be offered the flu shot at the clinic, while children who are 24 months to 18 years of age will have the choice of receiving a flu mist or the injection.

OLYMPIC HOPEFUL SPEAKS TO POPLAR BLUFF STUDENTS

The Poplar Bluff High School Cross Country team received an unexpected pep talk last week while preparing for their district championships.

Mules Cross Country Head Coach Beth Lewis-Muse arranged for the team to talk to USA Team marathon runner Josphat Boit over Skype.

Boit, who is currently training for the Olympic trials in February, was teammates with Lewis-Muse at Central Methodist University. He answered student questions about his training regimen, recovery, nutrition and psychology.

The pep-talk appeared to work out as three team members from Poplar Bluff, Katie Sliger, Isaiah Williams and Wesley Moore, went on to qualify for sectionals during the Class 4, District 1 Championship.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - A recent Missouri constitutional amendment is being cited by felons who say it means they have the right to carry guns.

Attorneys for three felons convicted of unlawful use of weapons or stealing based their Tuesday arguments to the state Supreme Court on a 2014 constitutional amendment that says the right to bear arms is "unalienable."

Missouri law bans felons from possessing firearms. In August, the Supreme Court upheld the felon-gun ban while analyzing it under the previous version of the constitution.

The latest challenge cites the 2014 amendment, which attempted to strengthen gun rights while also stating that lawmakers can impose restrictions on violent felons' ability to possess guns.

St. Louis assistant circuit attorneys argued that doesn't mean laws that prevent nonviolent felons from owning guns are unconstitutional.

TWO ARRESTED FOLLOWING ROBBERY INVESTIGATION IN STEELE  

Authorities in Steele have arrested two people in connection to an armed robbery investigation.

Steele Police Chief Billy Joe Stanfield tells KWOC News that on Monday a 35 year old man reported that he had been robbed at gun point at a vacant home in Steele. The victim told police that the suspects had robbed him of a large amount of money.

An investigation into the incident led to the arrest of 21 year old Nikki Williams and 25 year old Trever Grice, both of Park Hills. The duo was arrested by Kennett Police at an area motel and officers reportedly found a large amount of cash in the suspects’ room.

Both Williams and Grice have been charged with armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon 1^st degree robbery, and 1^st degree burglary.

OFFICERS WILL NOT BE CHARGED IN CONNECTION TO BLYTHEVILLE SHOOTING

Charges will not be filed against two police officers in connection to a shooting incident in Blytheville.

According to Scott Ellington, Prosecuting Attorney for the 2^nd Judicial District of Arkansas, the two officers were justified when they shot two suspects on October 8^th.

The suspects and officers had been involved in a high speed chase when the suspects’ vehicle reportedly rammed a police vehicle and accelerated toward one of the officer’s. This is when the two officers fired at the driver’s area of the vehicle.

The two suspects both survived.

COOTER MAN FACING ASSAULT CHARGE

A Cooter man is facing an assault charge following an incident in Steele.

According to Steele Police Chief Billy Joe Stanfield, officers responded to a residence Monday in reference to a fight in progress.

At the residence a man told officers that 21 year old Gary Roger Smith Jr. had struck him in the face with a wooden board. The victim was reportedly bleeding profusely from a laceration on his face and was taken to an area hospital.

Smith was arrested and charged with armed criminal action, tampering with motor vehicle and 1^st degree assault. He was lodged in the Pemiscot County Jail.

MISSOURI STATE VETERANS CEMETERY TO HOLD VETERANS DAY PROGRAM

The Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield will be holding their annual Veterans Day Program on November 11^th.

The program will begin at 1 pm at the Committal Shelter Plaza in the cemetery. The keynote speaker for this year’s program is Robert Wayne Fortenberry, who is a Vietnam era veteran of the US Navy.

4-H VOLUNTEERS NEEDED IN BUTLER COUNTY

Volunteers are needed for various 4-H Clubs in Butler County.

Stephanie Milner, 4-H Youth Development Specialst at the Butler County University of Missouri Extension tells KWOC News that volunteers are needed for many different things, such as running a club, becoming a project leader, and helping out at club meetings.

Milner says that even if you are time limited you can volunteer for as little as six hours throughout the year.

33 year old Lejon Watkins, of Poplar Bluff, was lodged in the Butler County Justice Center on a charge of receiving stolen property.  Authorities are seeking a 2^nd subject in this case.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN FOUND WITH METH DURING TRAFFIC STOP

Two people were arrested during a traffic stop Friday evening.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, an officer conducted the stop in reference to no head light.

During the stop an officer observed a small corner baggie sitting on the lap of 36 year old Donald Forsythe of Poplar Bluff. The baggie contained a crystal like substance that later field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Forsythe, who also reportedly had active warrants for his arrest, was taken into custody.

The driver of the vehicle, 34 year old Renea English, also of Poplar Bluff, was placed under arrest for driving while revoked/suspended.

TEENAGER TAKEN INTO CUSTODY FOLLOWING HIGH SPEED CHASE WITH POLICE

A teenager was taken into custody Monday morning after a chase with police.

According to the Kennett Police Department, an officer had attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a truck for traffic violations.

The truck led officers from the Kennett Police Department and Dunklin County Sheriff's Department on a high speed chase that continued for a short time period throughout several Dunklin County roads.

The truck then overturned while attempting to take a curve at a high rate of speed.

Officers found the driver of the vehicle, a 13 year old boy, and took him into custody.

DEXTER WOMAN FACING CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE CHARGE

Authorities say a Dexter woman has been taken into custody on a drug charge.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 25 year old Jennifer Breeze was arrested on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Her bond was set at $4,500, cash only.

ONE IN CUSTODY FOLLOWING FATAL WRECK IN BOLLINGER COUNTY

One person is in custody following a fatal wreck Monday afternoon in Bollinger County.

Sergeant Clark Parrott with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that the single vehicle wreck occurred five miles east of Marble Hill on Bollinger County Road 458.

A vehicle, driven by 21 year old David Sturm, of Marble Hill, ran off of the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned. A passenger in the vehicle, 24 year old Jacob Canoy, also of Marble Hill, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sturm suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital. He was later arrested on a charge of vehicular manslaughter.

ESSEX WOMAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE DRUG CHARGES IN STODDARD COUNTY

An Essex woman is facing multiple drug charges in connection to her arrest early Sunday morning in Stoddard County.

According to the Highway Patrol, 28 year old Barbara Vaughn was taken into custody shortly after 1 am Sunday on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Vaughn is also facing charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while intoxicated – drugs.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE SEEKING HELP IN IDENTIFYING SHOPLIFTER

Poplar Bluff police are trying to identify a suspect from a shoplifting complaint at an area business.

The incident occurred Saturday afternoon at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Poplar Bluff. Employees told police that a white male selected a pair of shoes and put them on; discarded his old shoes; then left the store without paying for the shoes.

TWO DEAD FOLLOWING A VEHICLE WRECK IN CARTER COUNTY  

Two are dead in connection to a vehicle wreck Saturday evening in Carter County.

Sergeant Clark Parrott, with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News, 41 year old Christopher Dawson, of Van Buren, was travelling west on Highway 60, ran into the median and overturned.  Both the driver and passenger, 46 year old Prescilla Weaver, of Poplar Bluff, were ejected from the vehicle.

Both were transported to a Poplar Bluff Hospital, where they were pronounced dead by Butler County Coroner Jim Akers.

NAYLOR MAN ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH RAPE AND SODOMY OVER THE WEEKEND

A staff member of the Naylor School District has been arrested and is facing formal charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a student.

Sergeant Clark Parrott with The Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News 52 year old John Mullins, of Gatewood, was arrested on Sunday.  The investigation began on Saturday, after the Ripley County Sheriff's Office received a report saying a staff member of the Naylor School District sexually assaulted a juvenile student.

Mullins is charged with 1^st Degree Rape, 1^st Degree Sodomy, and two counts of Sexual Contact with a Student.

Mullins is currently lodged in the Ripley County Jail on $100,000 bond.

YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID PROGRAM SCHEDULED FOR EARLY DECEMBER

The University of Missouri Extension will be providing a course to help teach individuals how to help a youth in crisis or experiencing a mental health or substance misuse.

The Youth Mental Health First Aid program introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health in adolescents.

The course is scheduled for 8:30 am to 5 pm on Thursday, December 3^rd at First Presbyterian Church in Poplar Bluff. Free registration for the course is available through Monday, November 30^th.

GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP TO BEGIN MEETING THIS WEEK IN SIKESTON

A new grief support group will begin meeting this week in Sikeston.

Chaplain Ron Lawson tells KWOC News that the “Good Grief” Mutual-Care Support Group will hold their first meeting this Thursday night, beginning at 6 pm at the YMCA in Sikeston.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN WAS ARRESTED OVER THE WEEKEND ON DRUG CHARGES

A Poplar Bluff man is facing a drug charge in connection to his arrest over the weekend.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department on Thursday afternoon, an officer found 44 year old Christopher Davis to be in possession of a glass smoking pipe with a white residue inside of it. The pipe field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Davis was taken into custody on charges of possession of drugs – methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

NORTHSIDE NUTRITION CENTER TO HOST CHILI FUNDRAISER AND CAN DRIVE

Northside Nutrition Center in Poplar Bluff tells KWOC News that they will be hosting a chili fundraiser and can drive on November 7^th.

The event will be held from 11 am to 2 pm at the center on Garfield Street. The cost to attend is $6 a person, however if you bring a can or non-perishable food item, the price drops to $5 a person.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO ARREST OF POPLAR BLUFF MAN  

A Wednesday night traffic stop resulted in a Poplar Bluff man being put behind bars.

Deputy Chief Jeff Rolland with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tells KWOC News that an officer conducted a traffic stop shortly before 10 pm Wednesday night in reference to an expired registration.

During the stop, the officer learned that the driver, 20 year old Brandon Phillips, had an active Butler County Warrant for a dangerous drugs related charge.

Phillips was placed in custody and lodged in the Butler County Justice Center on $100,000 cash bond.

SCOTT COUNTY SHERIFF ADVISES BUSINESSES TO BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR COUNTERFEIT MONEY

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter tells KWOC News that two people were recently taken into custody in connection to a counterfeit money manufacturing case.

Walter says the couple was passing counterfeit money, ranging from $5 to $20 bills, throughout the area.

BRIDGE MAINTENANCE CAUSING DELAYS IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

Motorists in Dunklin County should expect delays for the next few weeks on Route 412.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route 412 in Dunklin County is being reduced to one lane so contractor crews perform guardrail and guard cable repairs.

Route 412 between Routes NN and 84 will be reduced from 6 am to 7 pm through Saturday, November 14^th.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN CHARGED WITH FORGERY AND RECEIVING STOLEN PROPERTY

BODY OF MISSING MAN FOUND IN IRON COUNTY

The body of a missing Southeast Missouri man was found Wednesday in Iron County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the body of 77 year old Cecil Irvin Hedricks was found about a mile south of Virburnum on Forrest Service property.

Officials say that it is believed that Mr. Hedricks died of natural causes.

MAN ALLEGEDLY ADMITS TO HUFFING AIR DUSTER SHORTLY BEFORE WRECK

A Poplar Bluff man allegedly admitted to huffing inhalants shortly before a wreck on Monday.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, the wreck occurred on PP Highway when a vehicle began driving in the wrong lane of traffic and struck another vehicle.

An officer approached the driver, who reportedly appeared to be confused and did not realize he had been involved in a crash. The driver, 32 year old Thomas Woodham, was taken into custody and later told officers that he had taken a hit of air duster just prior to the impact.

Woodham was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, possession of inhalants, driving while suspended, driving left of center, and careless and imprudent driving.

No injuries were reported from the wreck.

POPLAR BLUFF STUDENTS TO GET FOUR DAY WEEKEND STARTING FRIDAY

Students in Poplar Bluff are getting ready to enjoy a four day weekend.

Superintendent Chris Hon tells KWOC News that Poplar Bluff R-I Schools will be dismissed on Friday and Monday for teacher collaboration.

Hon says that classes will resume on Tuesday.

PEDESTRIAN DIES AFTER BEING STRUCK BY A VEHICLE NEAR KENNETT

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle late Wednesday night in Dunklin County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred shortly after 11 pm on US 412, 1 mile east of Kennett.

Details about the incident are limited, however it has been released that 48 year old Kevin Wingate, of Bragg City, was struck by the vehicle and later pronounced dead at a Kennett Hospital.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION RELEASED ABOUT DRUG ARREST IN STODDARD COUNTY

Additional information has been released about a drug arrest involving two people in Stoddard County.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN FOUND IN POSSESSION OF DRUGS AND A GUN DURING TRAFFIC STOP  

A Poplar Bluff man is facing multiple charges after he was found with drugs and a gun during a traffic stop.

During the booking process deputies also found 8 ounces of methamphetamine ice on the suspect.

32 year old Alvin Hightower, of Cape Girardeau, is facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

PUXICO MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG AND GUN CHARGES

A Puxico man was taken into custody Tuesday on drug and gun charges.

Sergeant Clark Parrott with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that 49 year old Joseph Caulfield was arrested at around 11 am in Stoddard County.

Caulfield is facing felony charges of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and marijuana, possession of a controlled substance for hydrocodone and xanax, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

Caulfield is also charged with felon in possession of a firearm.

PAVEMENT REPAIRS TO BEGIN TODAY ON ROUTE 67 IN BUTLER COUNTY

Southbound Route 67 in Butler County will be reduced to one lane today and tomorrow so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform pavement repairs.

The work zone is located between Route C and Route 160.

Work will take place today and tomorrow from 7 am to 5 pm each day.

BUTLER COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO HOST FLU CLINIC THIS AFTERNOON IN NEELYVILLE

With flu season upcoming the Butler County Health Department has scheduled several free flu clinics across the county.

The first scheduled clinic will be held this afternoon at the Neelyville School Multipurpose Room from 3:30 to 6 pm.

DEATH OF MAN IN POLICE CUSTODY DETERMINED TO BE NATURAL CAUSES

Continuing to follow a story we brought you earlier this week, an autopsy has been conducted on a man who died in police custody.

43 year old Ernest Williams was arrested following a chase with Kennett Police Officers early Sunday morning. At the police department, the subject began complaining of shortness of breath and was taken to an area hospital where he later went unresponsive and was eventually pronounced dead.

An autopsy was conducted and determined that Williams died of natural causes.

Sergeant Clark Parrott with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that no foul play is suspected in the case.

MAN ARRESTED IN CARTER COUNTY ON DRUG RELATED CHARGES

A Birch Tree man has been taken into custody on drug related charges.

Sergeant Clark Parrott with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that 40 year old Shawn Wilkins was arrested early Monday morning in Carter County on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and felony possession of a controlled substance.

Wilkins was held in the Carter County Jail and later released.

ZALMA MAN FACING METH CHARGE

A Zalma man is facing a meth charge following his arrest Tuesday in Stoddard County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 48 year old Stanley Chubb was taken into custody on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Chubb is also facing a charge of possession of marijuana.

Crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation will be closing a Butler County road today so they can perform a pipe replacement.

During the operation, Route 142 will be closed from 8 am to 6 pm between Route EE and County Road 267.

MAN DIES AFTER BEING ARRESTED BY KENNETT POLICE  

A man reportedly died early Sunday morning after being arrested by Kennett authorities.

According to the Kennett Police Department, during a traffic stop, a person inside the vehicle fled on foot and was pursued by officers. The subject was located hiding behind a residence and taken into custody without incident.

At the police department, the subject began complaining of shortness of breath and was taken to an area hospital where he later went unresponsive and was eventually pronounced dead.

Kennett Police say the Missouri State Highway Patrol has been contacted and requested to conduct an investigation.

MAN ARRESTED IN POPLAR BLUFF ON MARIJUANA CHARGE

Butler County authorities arrested a Broseley man Saturday evening in Poplar Bluff.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, a deputy observed a vehicle driven by 21 year old Garrett Mclane run a stop light at the intersection of 9^th and Pine Street. The deputy conducted a traffic stop, during which the deputy reportedly smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The deputy searched the vehicle and found marijuana in a bottle.

Mclane was taken to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department on charges of possession of up to 35 grams of marijuana and careless and imprudent driving.

FESTUS MAN CHARGED WITH ASSAULT ON A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER

A Festus man has been charged with assault on a law enforcement officer after he allegedly hit a patrol vehicle during a pursuit.

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter tells KWOC News that a deputy attempted to pull over 27 year old Jason Hopper Monday after observing him running a stop sign.

Hopper led the deputy on a chase for almost an hour through Morley, Oran, Haywood City, and county roads before Hopper was cornered by another deputy.

Hopper then put his vehicle in reverse and struck the Scott County patrol vehicle that was behind him. He then attempted to run on foot and was subdued at the scene.

Hopper has been charged assault on a law enforcement officer, careless and imprudent driving, property damage, and felony resisting arrest by fleeing.

ANGELA PEARSON RESIGNS FROM CITY COUNCIL

Angela Pearson has resigned from the Poplar Bluff City Council.

Pearson’s resignation was formally accepted Monday night at the regular meeting of the city council.

The council also voted to table a proposed ordinance that would convert the utilities advisory board to an autonomous board.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN FOUND IN POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA AND GLASS PIPE

A Poplar Bluff man is facing multiple charges after he was reportedly found in possession of marijuana and a glass pipe.

According to Deputy Police Chief Jeff Rolland with the Poplar Bluff Police Department, 19 year old Nathon Jones is facing charges of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana following his arrest early Monday morning.

During a search of Jones, an officer found a glass pipe that had a white residue inside. When he was asked, Jones confirmed that the pipe had been used for smoking methamphetamine.

Jones also had an active warrant for his arrest.

ADVANCE MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON DRUG WARRANT

An Advance man has been taken into custody in Stoddard County on a drug warrant.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 43 year old Timothy Laws was arrested on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

Laws bond was set at $7,500.

BRIDGE MAINTENANCE ONGOING ON ROUTE 67 IN BUTLER COUNTY

North and Southbound Route 67 in Butler County is being reduced with a 16 foot width restriction so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform bridge maintenance on two bridges.

The two bridges are located between Route M and County Road 401.

Weather permitting; work will be performed daily through Monday, November 16^th from 6 am to 7 pm.

BERNIE MAN FACING DRUG CHARGES AFTER ARREST OVER THE WEEKEND  

A Bernie man is facing a drug charge in connection to his arrest Saturday afternoon.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 28 year old Raymond Turnbow was arrested in Stoddard County on a felony warrant of possession of a controlled substance.

Turnbow was lodged in the Stoddard County Jail on a $30,000 cash only bond.  He remains in jail as of this morning.

DATE SET FOR 15^TH ANNUAL RIPLEY COUNTY TOYS 4 TOTS HARVEST DINNER AND AUCTION

The date has been set for the 15^th Annual Ripley County Toys 4 Tots Harvest Dinner and Auction.

The event will begin at 5 pm on Saturday, November 7^th at West Point Pentecostal Church in Doniphan.

A barbecue dinner will be served from 5 to 8 pm with side dishes, dessert, and drink. The auction will begin at 6 pm.

All proceeds will go towards purchasing toys for this year’s Toys 4 Tots giveaway.

BRIDGE REPAIRS TO CAUSE DELAYS ON ROUTE 60 IN BUTLER COUNTY

Motorists in Butler County should expect delays on Route 60 north of Poplar Bluff.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, East and Westbound Route 60 will be reduced with a 16 foot width restriction so crews complete routine repairs to the overpass over Route 67.

The repairs will be done from 6 am to 7 pm daily through November 16^th.

ROMBAUER FALL HARVEST DAY

The Rombauer Fall Harvest Day will be held this weekend.

The event is scheduled for October 24^th from 8 am to 3 pm and will feature a best decorated scarecrow contest. The winner of the contest will get a free lunch. The scarecrows will then be auctioned off for people’s gardens next year.

Judging will begin at 11 am with the auction beginning at 11:30.

TWO EARTHQUAKES FELT IN BUTLER CARTER AND RIPLEY COUNTIES

Continuing to follow a story we brought you Friday, residents in Butler, Carter, and Ripley Counties say they felt the earth shake Friday afternoon.

Officials with the United States Geological Survey say not one but two earthquakes were recorded Friday afternoon.  The first earthquake occurred around 3:26 PM and the second followed 24 minutes later.

The first was a 3.4 magnitude quake and the second was recorded at 3.2.  Authorities say no damage was reported with the earthquakes.

This event comes one day, after the Annual Central U.S. Shakeout Drill.

STEELE WOMAN FACING DRUG CHARGE FOLLOWING HER ARREST

A Steele woman is facing a drug charge in connection to her arrest Saturday evening.

According to Sgt. Clark Parrott, with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 37 year old Conya Clark was arrested in Dunklin County on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – xanax.

Clark was transported to the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Department where she was booked and later released.

DEXTER POLICE SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT/ROVING PATROL CAMPAIGN RESULTS IN FOUR DWI ALCOHOL ARRESTS

Four DWI alcohol arrests were made during a seven month campaign in Dexter.

According to the Dexter Police Department, officers participated in a sobriety checkpoint/roving patrol campaign from March through September.

Officers worked 478 hours strictly for DWI enforcement which was fully covered by grant funds obtained through the Missouri Department of Transportation.

In addition to the heavier presence of patrol officers on duty, Dexter police also hosted 2 sobriety checkpoints and numerous saturation patrols during the campaign.

Officers made contact with a total of 2,556 vehicles looking for impaired motorists. In addition to the four DWI arrests, officers also made 2 drug arrests and 6 warrant arrests during the campaign.

CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS TO CAUSE DELAYS ON ROUTE 34 IN WAYNE COUNTY

Route 34 in Bollinger and Wayne Counties will be reduced with a 10 foot width restriction beginning today so contractor crews perform various operations along this route.

The section of roadway is located from Route 67 to County Road 808.

Weather permitting; work will take place from 5 am to 7 pm daily through Friday, July 1^st, 2016.

QULIN MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG WARRANT  

A Qulin man was arrested Thursday evening on a drug warrant.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 39 year old Randy Smith was arrested at 6:40 pm in Butler County on a felony Clay County, Arkansas, warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

Smith was taken to the Butler County Justice Center following the arrest.

WAYNE COUNTY AUTHORITIES SEARCHING FOR SEX OFFENDER

Authorities in Wayne County are searching for a sex offender.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, they are trying to locate Mark Eugene Duncan.

Duncan is a sex offender who has failed to register and also has an active warrant out of Wayne County. His last known location was in the Wappapello area.

STUDENTS ACROSS SOUTHEAST MISSOURI PARTICIPATE IN GREAT CENTRAL US SHAKEOUT

Students across Southeast Missouri, including Poplar Bluff, participated in the Great Central U.S. Shakeout drill on Thursday.

During the drill the students practiced on what they need to do when an earthquake hits.

The drill covered the "Drop, Cover and Hold On" protocol, which had students drop to the ground, take cover by getting under a desk or table, and hold on.

NAME RELEASED OF MAN ARRESTED IN KENNETT HOMICIDE CASE

Updating a story we brought to you earlier this week, authorities in Kennett have released the name of a suspect arrested in a homicide case.

36 year old Crowin King, of Homestown, is facing a 1^st degree murder charge in the death of 24 year old Carolletta Hamilton, of Caruthersville.

According to the Kennett Police Department, Hamilton was recently found dead at an area residence. King was taken into custody following an investigation.

PARADE HIGHLIGHTS 2015 BROSELEY HOMECOMING

Multiple events, including the annual parade, are planned for the 2015 Broseley homecoming this weekend.

The parade is scheduled to begin at 9 am Saturday, with participants lining up beginning at 8 am at Twin Rivers High School.

Prior to the parade, the Broseley Senior Community Center will be hosting breakfast starting at 6 am. A fish fry will also be held following the parade.

ONE PERSON SHOT WEDNESDAY NIGHT IN POPLAR BLUFF  

Poplar Bluff Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Wednesday night.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, a non-fatal shooting occurred in the parking lot at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

The identity and condition of the victim were not released.

Edward Scores, of Poplar Bluff, was arrested at 7:30 pm and is in custody on charges of 1^st degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

MEETING TO BE HELD TODAY TO DISCUSS HIRING OF NEW POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOLS SUPERINTENDENT

Poplar Bluff Schools Superintendent Chris Hon tells KWOC News that a meeting has been scheduled for today to get public input into the hiring of a new school superintendent.

The focus group meeting will be held by the Missouri School Boards Association this evening at 6:15 pm in the Kay Porter Theatre.

Hon says the association is looking for what qualities the public desires in a new superintendent.

TWIN SPRINGS BAPTIST CHURCH ANNOUNCES DATE FOR THEIR FIRST ANNUAL FALL FESTIVAL

Twin Springs Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff has announced they will be hosting their First Annual Fall Festival this month.

The free event will be held at the church from 4 to 7 pm on October 24^th.

There will be a bounce house, games, entertainment, and food for those who attend.

BLOOMFIELD MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG WARRANT

A Bloomfield man is in custody following his arrest on a drug warrant.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 25 year old Zachary Mitchell was recently arrested on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

Mitchell’s bond was set at $15,000 cash and he remained in jail as of this morning.

DEXTER WOMAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK

A Dexter woman was injured Wednesday morning in a single vehicle wreck near Bloomfield.

Sergeant Clark Parrott with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that 56 year old Kathy Durbin’s vehicle ran off the side of Highway 25, overturned, and struck several small trees.

Durbin was taken to a Dexter hospital with serious injuries.

NAME ANNOUNCED FOR NEW CLASSROOM BUILDING AT THREE RIVERS COLLEGE

Three Rivers College has announced a name for the new classroom building.

Naming rights to the new “Robert W. Plaster Free Enterprise Center” were secured by the Robert W. Plaster Foundation, a charitable organization in Lebanon, Mo., in exchange for a seven-figure donation that will be used toward the cost of the building.

The donation was recently accepted by the college’s Board of Trustees.

The building will also be the home of Three Rivers’ business program.

MODOT ANNOUNCES UPCOMING BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT

The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced an upcoming bridge replacement project in Dunklin County.

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission is planning to replace a bridge on Route HH located approximately one mile east of the intersection between Route HH and Route 153.

The project involves replacing the bridge over Main Ditch with a double box culvert.

Construction could begin as early as spring 2016. As construction is underway, Route HH will be closed to through traffic in the vicinity of the bridge.

WOMAN FOUND WITH HERON IN POPLAR BLUFF  

A woman is facing drug charges following her arrest Sunday in Poplar Bluff.

According to deputy chief Jeff Rolland with the Poplar Bluff Police Department, an officer made contact with two women early Sunday morning in reference to reported stolen property.

During this time, the officer observed 28 year old Latara Jackson adjust her pocket and start walking toward a trash can. When asked, Jackson removed items from her pocket including money and two plastic baggies.

One baggie contained marijuana and the other had a dark chunky substance that Jackson later admitted to be heroin.

Jackson was taken into custody for possession of heroin and marijuana.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE WARNING OF PHONE SCAM

Poplar Bluff Police are advising residents to be on the lookout for a reported phone scam.

David Sutton with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tells KWOC News that a victim reported that they received an automated message which advised they were being sued by the IRS; and urged the victim to call a number immediately.

When the victim called the number, they spoke with a male subject who said they owed over $4,000 in unpaid taxes and threatened them with arrest if the debt was not paid immediately.

Sutton says that if anyone receives a call like this to hang up immediately and any unsolicited calls asking or demanding money should be considered suspicious.

MAN FLOWN TO MEMPHIS HOSPITAL FOLLOWING BUTLER COUNTY WRECK

A Bonne Terre man has been flown to a Memphis hospital following a wreck Monday in Butler County.

Sergeant Clark Parrott with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that the wreck occurred Monday night on southbound US 67.

A vehicle hit an animal in the roadway and then overturned, ejecting the driver, 29 year old Adam Urich.

Urich was taken to a Memphis hospital with serious injuries.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON DANGEROUS DRUGS WARRANT

Authorities arrested a Poplar Bluff man Tuesday afternoon on a drug warrant.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 26 year old Frederick Meyer was arrested on a felony Butler County warrant for dangerous drugs.

Meyer also had a warrant out of Poplar Bluff for failure to appear for no auto insurance.

Following his arrest, Meyer was lodged in the Butler County Justice Center.

DRIVER SERIOUSLY INJURED IN SCHOOL BUS CRASH NEAR CHARLESTON

A school bus driver was seriously injured during a wreck Tuesday morning near Charleston.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a school bus driven by 53 year old Daniel Meeks, of Charleston, hit a guardrail and a concrete bridge banister before overturning off of US 62.

Meeks was ejected from the vehicle during the wreck and was flown to a Cape Girardeau hospital with serious injuries. Meeks was the only person inside the bus during the wreck.

DONIPHAN POLICE INVESTIGATING GROCERY STORE BURGLARY

Cash was allegedly taken from a Doniphan grocery store Sunday night.

According to authorities, the money was taken from a safe at the Doniphan Town and Country. Doniphan Police are investigating the burglary.

BENEFIT TO BE HELD THIS WEEKEND FOR BOY WITH NUEROBLASTOMA

An event has been scheduled for this weekend to support a child with nueroblastoma.

The gigging tournament and fish fry will be held at the Rocky River Resort Pavilion in Doniphan to help raise money for Issac West’s medical expenses.

The gigging tournament will be on October 17^th with registration beginning at 4:30 pm. There will be prizes for best weight for 10 fish and biggest single fish.

The fish fry will follow at noon on October 18^th.
