POPLAR BLUFF SOFTBALL WINS DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP

The Poplar Bluff Lady Mules Softball team is celebrating a district championship.

The 3 seed Lady Mules defeated 4 seed Notre Dame Monday 6-5 in the finals of the Class 5, District 1 tournament.

The Lady Mules now move on to the Class 5 Quarter-Final, where they will take on Parkway South. The quarterfinal matchup is scheduled for 4:30 pm Thursday in Poplar Bluff.

TWO ARRESTED FOR MURDER IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

Three people have been arrested following the discovery of human remains in Southeast Missouri.

Bollinger County Sheriff Casey Graham tells KWOC News that on October 14th, the Bollinger County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing person, identified as 21 year old Brianna Roberts, of Illinois.

An investigation found that Kaitlyn Morgan and Eric Nanney, of Glen Allen, were the last known individuals to have had contact with Brianna.

FIREFIGHTERS SAVE DOG FROM STRUCTURE FIRE

A pet was saved from a fire this week in the Missouri Bootheel.

According to the Kennett Police Department, firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire on Slice Street that had an animal inside.

Chief Paul Spain was able to make entry into the structure and save a small dog.

FALL BUFF UP THE BLUFF SET FOR THIS WEEKEND

The 2021 Fall Buff up the Bluff event is set for this weekend.

The citywide clean up event has been scheduled for Saturday, October 16th.

The Poplar Bluff Leaf Disposal Site will be accepting items from 8 am to 3:30 pm. The site is located southeast of Twin Towers and signs will be posted. Proof of city residency is required.

AUTHORITIES SEARCHING FOR MISSING DEXTER MAN

Authorities in Dexter are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing man.

According to the Dexter Police Department, 61 year old Robert Watts was reported missing on Monday.

Watts was last seen at a friend’s funeral in the Chicago area and is reported to have checked out of the Ashland Hotel in Chicago at around 2 am Monday.

Watts’s cell phone was left in the hotel room and he has not been seen or heard from since.

FORMER FOOTBALL COACH PLEADS GUILTY TO FORGERY CHARGE

A former High School football coach has pleaded guilty to a forgery charge.

According to authorities, Michael Harrell, of Piggott, will have to pay almost $1000 in fees and court costs following his guilty plea on a charge of 2nd degree forgery for forging COVID-19 documents.

Harrell will also not be able to teach for a period of five years.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN TO APPEAR IN COURT THIS MONTH ON RAPE CHARGE

A Poplar Bluff man is scheduled to appear in court later this month on multiple charges, including 1st degree rape or attempted rape.

According to Missouri Case Net, a preliminary hearing for Darnell Webb has been scheduled for Thursday, October 21st on charges of 1st degree rape or attempted rape, 1st degree kidnapping, and 3rd degree domestic assault.

SEARCH UNDERWAY FOLLOWING SHOOTING IN NEW MADRID

A search is underway in New Madrid in connection to a shooting incident.

According to New Madrid Police Chief Joey Higgerson, on Wednesday morning officers were called to the 400 block of Semo Drive at around 8 am in reference to gunshots in the neighborhood.

Witnesses told police that the driver of a blue car was firing at a white car, and that an occupant of the white car was shooting back. The vehicles had both left the scene prior to officers' arrival and there appeared to be no injuries.

ONE DEAD, ONE IN CUSTODY, IN CONNECTION TO BUTLER COUNTY SHOOTING

One man is in custody following a fatal shooting in Butler County.

Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs tells KWOC News, that shortly before 11 pm Monday night deputies responded to a report of a person who had been shot in the chest at a location on Butler County Road 309.

The victim, identified as 30 year old Joshua Collins, of Poplar Bluff, was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

SEARCH UNDERWAY FOR MISSING TEENS FROM NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

A search is underway for two missing teenagers from Northeast Arkansas.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, officials received a missing person’s report on Saturday for 17 year old Ashley Darlene Walls and 18 year old Matthew Allen Morrison.

The teens had been out on a day trip beginning at approximately 11:30 am Saturday morning from rural Jackson County. No one has had contact with either since.

MAN FACING MURDER CHARGE IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

A Kennett man has been charged with murder in connection to the discovery of a body over the weekend.

Kennett Chief of Police Kenny Wilson tells KWOC News that shortly before 5 pm on Saturday, officers were dispatched to an area on Jones Street in reference to a possible deceased person.

The victim was later identified as 76 year old Dewey Ridings, of Kennett. Information about the deceased, including a cause of death, was not available.

BUTLER COUNTY PROSECUTOR TO RECEIVE OVER $100,000 TO INVESTIGATE AND PROSECUTE CRIMINALS WHO VICTIMIZE CHILDREN

Multiple area agencies will be receiving grant funds from the state to investigate and prosecute crimes that victimized children.

According to Missouri Governor Mike Parson, the Butler County Prosecutor’s Office will receive $104,900 from the Missouri Crimes Against Children/Sex Crimes COVID-19 Funding Opportunity, which is administered by the Missouri Department of Public Safety.

MOREHOUSE MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING PURSUIT

A Southeast Missouri man is in custody following a pursuit on Tuesday.

According to Portageville Police Chief Ronnie Adams, an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for speed violation when the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed on Missouri Highway 162.

During the pursuit, an officer blocked the roadway with his vehicle and attempted to deploy spike strips. The suspect swerved, almost striking the officer.

MISSING WOMAN FOUND SAFE

Updating a story we brought to you earlier this week, authorities in Dexter say that a woman who had been missing since August has been found.

Officials with the Dexter Police Department tell KWOC News that 20 year old Angelina Cook has been found safe.

Cook had been missing since August 12th. No additional information has been released.

DEXTER POLICE SEARCHING FOR WOMAN WHO HAS BEEN MISSING SINCE AUGUST

Authorities in Dexter are searching for a woman who was last seen in August.

According to the Dexter Police Department, 20 year old Angelina Cook was last seen in the Dexter area around August 12th.

She is described as a Caucasian female, five feet, nine inches tall, weighing 125 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

TWO INJURED IN STODDARD COUNTY WRECK

Two people were injured Thursday morning in a Stoddard County wreck.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 45 year old Ellis Sapp, of Parma, failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Highways 114 and 153 and struck another vehicle.

Sapp suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was flown to a Memphis hospital.
