MASSIVE FIRE DESTROYS VAN BUREN BUSINESS

A Southeast Missouri business was destroyed in a massive fire Wednesday morning.

A spokesman with the Carter County Sheriff’s Department tells KWOC News that at approximately 1 am Wednesday, fire crews from multiple counties responded to a large structure fire at the Landing in Van Buren.

The building is being considered a total loss and an investigation is underway by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

AUTHORITIES IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS SEARCHING FOR SHOOTING SUSPECT

Authorities in Northeast Arkansas are searching for a suspect in connection to a Monday shooting.

According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, at around 4:45 pm Monday, his office received a 911 call of a shooting on Greene County Road 716. After the shooting, the suspect ran from the residence into a nearby wooded area.

CARTER COUNTY AUTHORITIES SEARCHING FOR MAN WANTED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES

Authorities in Carter County are searching for a man in connection to a search warrant that was executed last month.

According to Carter County Sheriff Dustin Boyer, on August 26th, members of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office and the South-Central Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at a residence on Carter County Road 222.

REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY SET FOR SATURDAY FOR THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE 9/11 TERRORIST ATTACKS

A special remembrance program has been scheduled for this Saturday in Poplar Bluff for the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001.

River Radio will be hosting the program beginning at 10 am at the Larry Hillis parking lot at the corner of Highway 67 North and Shelby Road in Poplar Bluff.

PUBLIC HEARING SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK TO DISCUSS POPLAR BLUFF BLOCK GRANT

A public hearing has been scheduled for this week in Poplar Bluff to discuss the city’s application for a block grant.

The city will host the hearing at 1 pm on Thursday at the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission on Fair Street.

The city is proposing to sponsor the application of the Planning Commission to replace the horizontal baler located at the Ozark Foothills Recycling Center in Poplar Bluff.

SHOOTING LEAVES ONE DEAD IN POPLAR BLUFF

A homicide investigation is ongoing in connection to a Friday morning shooting in Poplar Bluff.

Officials with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tell KWOC News that officers were dispatched to an area on South E Street at around 7:30 am Friday in reference to a subject who had been shot.

The victim, identified as Clifton Clyde Reed, was later pronounced dead at the scene by Butler County Coroner Jim Akers.

Poplar Bluff Police investigating multiple shooting incidents

Authorities in Poplar Bluff are investigating multiple reported shootings from Friday night.

Captain David Sutton with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tells KWOC News, at around 10:50 pm, officers were dispatched to a gambling hall on South Westwood Boulevard in reference to shots fired. Officers at the scene learned that several people exchanged gunfire and one adult male was shot.

The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The extent of his injuries was not released.

About six minutes after that report, Police received another report of shots being fired into a house on Gardner Street. While investigating that report, officers heard shots being fired north of their location.

Officers later found that a round had struck a home in the 600 block of West Lexington Street.

A witness told police that they saw two passenger vehicles exchange gunfire on West Lexington, between Garfield and Alice Streets.

It is unknown if the shootings are connected to each other and they are all under investigation. Anyone with information about the shootings is asked to contact the Poplar Bluff Police Department.

SEVERAL FIREARMS SEIZED DURING CARTER COUNTY DRUG INVESTIGATION

Authorities in Carter County are reaching out to area residents who may have recently had a firearm stolen.

According to the Carter County Sheriff’s Office, a search warrant was executed on August 26th as a part of a drug investigation, and several firearms were seized.

Carter County Sheriff Dustin Boyer says that the origin of a number of the firearms could not be determined.

POPLAR BLUFF FIREFIGHTERS TO DO STAIR CLIMB IN REMEMBRANCE OF 9/11 VICTIMS

A group of area firefighters will be raising money on the 20th anniversary of the September 11th terror attack.

The Poplar Bluff Fire Department team will be participating in the 2021 Clayton Memorial Stair Climb at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis on Saturday, September 11th.

Firefighters and civilians will join forces in a 110 floor stair climb to honor the victims of the 9/11 attacks and raise funds for charities supporting first responders.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE SEEKING PUBLIC’S HELP IN LOCATING A WANTED MAN

Authorities in Poplar Bluff are asking for the public’s help in locating a wanted man.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, 36 year old Matthew Russell is wanted for robbery and suspicion of stealing. Officials say that he has felony warrants for his arrest.

Russell is described as a white male, five feet, 11 inches tall, weighing 165 pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes.

POPLAR BLUFF ELECTRIC LINE CREWS TO ASSIST WITH HURRICANE IDA REPAIRS

Electric line crews from Southeast Missouri have left for Mississippi to help repair damage from Hurricane Ida.

According to the Missouri Public Utility Alliance, lineworker crews from seven cities across the state, including Poplar Bluff, are relocating to an area of southwest Mississippi hard hit by the storm.

CORNING MAN DIES FOLLOWING CRASH IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

A Northeast Arkansas man has died following a wreck over the weekend.

Officials with the Arkansas State Police tell KWOC News that 47 year old Marty Thompson, of Corning, was driving Saturday afternoon on US Highway 67 in Randolph County.

Thompson’s vehicle crossed both lanes of traffic and struck an oncoming semi truck head on.

Officials say that Thompson was killed in the wreck. The driver of the semi truck was injured and transported to an area hospital.

KABUL AIRPORT ATTACK KILLS AT LEAST 13 US TROOPS

Two suicide bombers and gunmen have targeted crowds of Afghans flocking to Kabul’s airport to flee the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.

U.S. officials said at least 13 U.S. service members have died, including 11 Marines and a Navy Corpsman. An Afghan official says at least 60 Afghans were killed and 143 wounded.

A U.S. official said the attack was believed to have been carried out by the Islamic State group.

President Joe Biden spoke directly to the attackers in a speech to the nation and said “We will not forgive. We will not forget. We will hunt you down and make you pay.”

POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOL DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION BUILDING TO MOVE DOWNTOWN

The administrative building for the Poplar Bluff School District is heading downtown.

According to officials, Poplar Bluff Schools has closed on the former U.S. Bank branch building on South Main Street to relocate its Administrative Building in the future.

The 16,000-square-foot two-story facility will become the new home for public Board of Education meetings, in addition to providing offices for the district’s superintendent cabinet and support team.

SUSPECT SOUGHT IN POPLAR BLUFF SHOOTING

Authorities in Butler County are searching for a suspect in connection to a shooting in Poplar Bluff.

Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs tells KWOC News that on Monday a caller reported that a silver mustang was chasing a white Crown Victoria from a business on South Broadway to an apartment on Highway 53.

During the chase, the mustang was trying to run the crown victoria off the road.
